PREACH, PREACH!
That is the honest to God truth, Dave! Well said!
I have been a mobile electronics installer since the mid 70's and have seen and watched the "street activity" for years and years. These days, we have TWO kinds if "street cars" and both groups offer extensive work on their cars to "present" at the local "cruise spot".. As always, we have the hard core "motorheads", just like myself, that choose to take the "performance highway". On the other hand, we also have a new "street battle" that uses electronics and technology to "do battle on the streets", just like the race-cars do. TWO completely different cultures striving for the same common goal! What is that goal? To impress the chicks of course! Think about it.....
I think that the two categories NEED to be separated, because the "approach to the car project" at hand, is a completely different way of thinking and neither of the two will EVER understand the other's thinking..
The way that I look at all of this.. IF your car DOES what it was MENT to DO, be it a hot-rod, a low-rider, a "rolling stereo", or what ever, I'll always give a score that matches the work and effort that was put into the car, even if I may not agree with the overall "theme of the project"... The only cars that I tend to score a little lower are the ones that "pretend to be something that they are not".. You know the ones that I'm talking about.. Let's keep the cars REAL, be it a low-rider, a hot-rod, a pro-street car, a high-tech car, an import racer, a rolling jam-box, or what ever..
Peace to the site, and let's build some CARS!
