JAREN OG HOLMEN--HOLMEN--GARDER UTSKILT FRÅ HOLMEN--BEKKEN: In the 1760s living on Midtsundstad in Hof a married couple--ERIK KORNELIUSSEN and GJERTRUD OLSDTR. In 1862 [sic, 1762] they had a son named Ola, and on the 13th day of July 1764 their son Gunnar was baptized. He was probably born in late 1763 or early 1764. Later--when Ola was possibly in his 20s--Erik moved his household to Grue, and he and his son took to clearing and building on the place which we have heard was part of Holmrønningen, and the place was named Bekken (Bækken). Erik and Gjertrud didn't come to live here for many years. They both died--about the same time--on Bekken in 1787. Erik was 68 and his wife 64. Tradition says that Erik came from Odal, and that it could have been true, but he came to Grue from Hof. It is said that he had a brother Ola that came with him. As far as we can tell, that is not correct. It is quite probable that Erik took his son Ola with him to the place of Bekken. It says when Erik died, that his son Gunnar took over the clearing. The time has come and gone to say that Erik and Ola had been brothers, and not father and son. In 1800 there is one farm--the one Ola had cleared--that was divided into 2 bruk (now bnr. 18 and 19 under Vestre Holmen), and the other was undivided (now bnr. 21). We shall first tell about Ola's farm.

JAREN OG HOLMEN--HOLMEN--GARDER UTSKILT FRÅ HOLMEN--BEKKEN--Bnr. 19: Now we'll go back in time and hear about the farm under GUNNAR ERIKSEN. He was, we have heard, born in Hof in either 1763 or 1764. His wife came from Komperud in Hof. She was MARI HANSDTR and was about the same age as her husband. In the 1801 census they were both listed as 38 (Ola Eriksen was 40). They had three children: Eli (married to Ola Olsen Åserud or Tangen), Maren and Gunnar. Gunnar Eriksen was sole owner a year after his brother Ola. In 1800 Amund Kristiansen Vestgarn Vestre Holmen deeded a large part of Bekken to him for 160 daler, which was taxed at 1/4 skinn, and 7 years later he was deeded an equally large part by Arne Hansen Søgarn Austre Holmen. Gunnar died in March 1827, age 63, and the farm went to his son Gunnar Gunnarsen I via probate for 260 daler.
