Prøver å finne ut hvorfra (foreldre) Erik Christian Olsen Arloug kom.
I 1782 ble han undertollbetjent i Bergen.
I følge Osv. L. Melbye: "Tollere Gjennom 300 År 1563 - 1886" var han født i 1738 på Hedemarken. I 1782 hadde han i 13 vært tollskriver og konstituert toller i Larvik og Stavanger.
I 1801 folketellingen er han 62 år; altså også her født ca 1738.
Ved hans begravelse på Fredens Bolig i Bergen 23/4 1813 står det i Klokkerboken at han var fra Toten (?).
