Many people will tell you things like that are not uncommon when a child is learning to write, but I disagree. There may be some that start out that way & turn it around quickly with very little correction, but the ones that are consistently writing backwards, I believe are showing signs of future problems. My youngest (now diagnosed with Dyslexia) wrote his name TJ (for Travis Jr) JT & the J was also backwards. Keep your eyes open for other signs such as mixing up words..busghetti for spaghetti, struggling past a normal age for tying shoes, late starting to talk (again mixing up syllables), creating their "own words" for items because they can't remember the correct name (my son called a dessert named a fudge overboard, a captain ahoy, for one ex.) Good luck to both of you...early recognition is important!
