Hello there. My little daughter also had a diagnosis of dyslexia, and we found her the extra support and educational tools to get her through. She is now a happy, well-adjusted adult and has an interesting life and many different qualifications. She is also extremely creative and hard working. I am not saying that it is easy when your daughter is young, like yours is at 8. This is the time to pour in your help, and understanding. Read more about dyslexia, and the kinds of difficulties that some children can have, but above all remember that everyone is a unique individual and as such we cannot categorize people just because they have dyslexia. My husband also has dyslexia, and in his day at school, there was no particular help available, but he won through, and after university has had a varied and distinguished career in different fields. We found that we could work through particular programmes like alpha to omega with our daughter, and that although she could not learn her tables or spellings by rote, she could work out the tables on her fingers. She only learnt to read her watch when she was ten and a half, and at first, until she gained confidence with her spelling difficulties, she limited the length of words she used in her creative writings. But she learnt to read widely and as I say is a happy, well adjusted human being, and very creative. Good luck with finding out more about dyslexia, and how to help your daughter too.
