It is necessary for dyslexic's students to learn to type. I have worked with many dyslexic students to help them overcome their writing problems, and I found that when students type their writing greatly improves.

Instead of having trouble physically trying to write out the letters to a work, with typing the student just pressed a button. Spell and grammar checking is much easier as well, allowing the student to concentrate on learning to become a better writer.

As a dyslexic I learned typing the way I normally learn information, backwards. I started at the end of the book and worked backwards. This drove my teacher nuts, but it worked well for me. Your son needs the freedom to learn in his own style, so bring this point up with his teacher. If that does not work try the board of education, that always worked with my parents.
