I went through this with my son. He ended up testing just in genius IQ but struggled to read etc...He has never been two grades behind and has found tricks to mask his issues and so the school gave no info...did not help. I was lucky and found an expert on this subject who guided me. Do not give up....you should look into dyslexia and right down all the symptoms and signs...Keep asking and asking...if they say no...ask why and ask what you can do to get a yes...find a neurologist or a neuropsychologist via your child's doctor...they can get the ball rolling as well...My son did a WISC IV test that specifically outlined he probably has a learning disability and they cannot decide on testing based on his report card marks because he is soo smart..and that he needs to get tested. The language was so specific and to the point that the school was then obligated...Not sure how it works in your area but usually I find the best and quickest way is via a neurologist or psychiatrist...
