I have been using a programme that integrates tricky sight words with reading and writing---5 students have had great success. It is a New Zealand programme called Early Words (Yoland Soryl)--if you google it you will see a short video of the programme in action. The programme costs $85 for the book with all the blackline masters and a video. I like the way the programme builds up vocabulary starting with the child's names. Cartoon drawings are used to expand vocabulary--so the student can read interesting text using the basic sight words.
