Hi Lauren. I am not a teacher either, and I'm sorry I do not have any advice to give.l I just wanted to say that when I read your post I no longer felt alone. I am the same way. I do not do too bad with spelling but I'm constantly asking my husband how to spell words. Still confuse right and left. Get mixed up with directions. Don't ask me to make an immediate decision on direction when driving. Never could play the Hokie Pokie! Can't remember multiplication, or some addition and subtraction. Still use my fingers. I was an average student in elementary and high school. Better grades when I took college classes as a 40-year-old. However, have NOT been able to pass developmental Algebra after trying 2x. I could not do Algebra in high school and was moved to another math class. It was not required to have 2 algebras when I was in school. I'm a bit upset I had much trouple with writing in college English. Also saddened I can not proceed in college as I can not pass my math.
As the other poster replied to your post....you will make a great teacher because you can understand what dyslexics go through. Also, to let them know you ARE human and make spelling mistakes would in my opinion bring a closer relationship between you and your students because you are not trying to act perfect without fault. God bless you in your work.
