I had a kind of "icky" reaction to the man in your posted situation myself, guess some things stick with some people and in his own mind, he wanted to prove something or make a point in his own mind without clueing you in at all. Hope he got whatever it was out of his system and gets on with his life.
Geez, some people are like that.
