He realized altogether that too soon and too quickly he had revealed himself as some softy; one whom stood on dead man's leg and earned a stout but embarrassing income. The stallion had paid his dues; worked his life through, with interest, and so he added rather hastily, so as not to appear to incredibly helpless,

"I could do it myself; just since you are a couple of able bodies before me, I could appreciate the animosity."
