I know that you all think I am a nosy git, who needs to butt out of this sim game, but I’m back again. I have a few points to make. I know that no one thought I was a good owner, but I still have to throw in my 2 cents. Here I go in another long drawn out speech (and you thought you were rid of me):
1. Religion – This game is not meant to be just for Christians or non Christians. It is diverse, which means bringing religion into it may be offensive. Saying Merry Christmas or Happy Easter is not (in my puny opinion) offensive, but witnessing may be. I am a very avid Christian. I read my bible, go to church, go to youth group, pray, and overall try to please God. All you fellow Christians, you all brought up very good points, that are true parts of our faith, but you missed a critical note in the bible. It says that we are not to force our faith on other people. We can tell them about how awesome Christianity is, but we can not tell them, Christianity is the only choice. Shayla probably felt like you were pressuring her to be Christian, which is not part of our faith. We have to respect ALL different religious groups. Enough said!
2. Swearing – First off, do not assume that all parents cuss, Shay. Mine do not. I have heard my dad cuss twice in my life and my mom only once! They are both very against swearing and will not allow me to do it. But, I have respect for the fact that some people are allowed to cuss. I mean, we’re all different. I think that some words are much too offensive to be used on a sim game (or anywhere for my personal opinion), but even I have slipped and said hell (oops!). If it is allowed on a sim game, moderately, then I can overlook it. All of us who are mature (and wish to stop the fighting) can overlook a bit of moderate swearing. I don’t see why it is necessary, but we all have our own opinions. The owners do ultimately run the game, so while they make the final rule, I have a few things to mention in a later section
3. Age - I never thought of this as a “teen” sim game. Kick me off then! I’m not a teen at the age of 12 (people say I’m mature, HA), so I can’t be a member of this teen only sim game. When I was an owner, it was geared towards ALL ages. We wanted everyone to feel welcome. I always loved being a member and will hate not being able to rejoin since it is now a teen sim game (I know, you’re all saying good riddance, but I’ll miss you anyway!) I just was thinking that you are going to have to clearly state an age group, if you are going to say that it is directed towards teens.
4. Owner/Member relations – This is a big one. Owners sometimes go on a “power trip” (I did it myself) and feel as though they are suddenly in control. They immediately want to change everything to suit them and not really worry about what the other members think. Members think that a lot of new things are unfair and many are so used to how the game runs that they resist change. There are ways to fix this, including careful talking about sudden changes (large changes, that is) If you don’t suddenly drop the change on them, owners, they may react better. More on this topic in next (and last) section
5. Respect – This is a big issue and has been for a long time. Bidding is often one of the causes, but I won’t go into that. This is not something that can just be “handled”, this is a clear way of thinking. If you think that you are not going to argue, but state what you say calmly, then you are showing respect. If you decide to let someone have their way to stop fighting, you are showing respect. It is so many little things that make such a big difference in how much fun a sim game is. I know that I quite often lose my temper and spout off at someone (whoops), then I feel horrible. Apologizing is the ultimate sign of respect. You don’t have to say, ‘I was wrong, I’m sorry’. You don’t need to lie, if you still think you were right, just say, ‘Look, I’m sorry we fought’. No lies there! R-E-S-P-E-C-T, as Aretha Franklin (sp?) would put it.
That’s it friends! I’m going to shut up now! (YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAH!) Please forgive me if the following thoughts are running through your mind:
Shut up!
Go away!
Get off this game and take your comments with you!
I will now say adieu and will accept any kind of comments. Please, at least you owners can say something to me (even if its just ‘shut up, I don’t agree with you!)
~Susan~
