A man rode into the square upon the back of a horse. The stallion had seen better days; he had once been a great warhorse. His coat had once been a glossy black. It was now bleached from the sun, its lustre had been replaced by layers of mud and dirt and his mane and tail were both matted. The man was clad in shabby cloths, his hair was tangled and greasy and it looked as though he had not shaved nor bathed in quite a few days time. In stark contrast to the grime of the two, the horse worn a finely detailed bridle with rich black leather and a silver bit. The man stops the horse and watches the people going about their business for a time, his grey eyes scanning the crowd, seeming to look for anything specious. He slowly dismounts and allows the horse to drink from a water trough. He scratches the horse’s ear and talks quietly to him, though he keeps glancing over his shoulder as if expecting someone to come looking for him.
