In loving memory of my dear boss and friend, Jim Beveridge of Heyworth, IL, I thought I'd post a quick message. Jim was one of the few remaining old linotype operators. It was one of his pride and joys. After his recent passing, one of our office staff turned off Jim's linotype machine. It was so sad. Jim never completely handed down his linotype operating knowledge to any of his employees. So the monster machine sits there in the front of our old printshop as a constant reminder of Jim and the fact that he is no longer with us. What I wouldn't give to hear that old monster crank up one last time and to see Jim sitting there like he used to cursing and grumbling, but full of pride when a line of type was produced and used in our printing process.
