1) WRITE TO THESE FOLKS

City Council Members, Mayor, Governor, and Dept. of Environmental
Health

rick.garcia@ci.denver.co.us, jeanne.faatz@ci.denver.co.us,
rosemary.rodriguez@ci.denver.co.us, peggy.lehmann@ci.denver.co.us,
marcia.johnson@ci.denver.co.us, charlie.brown@ci.denver.co.us,
kathleen.mackenzie@ci.denver.co.us, elbra.wedgeworth@ci.denver.co.us,
judy.montero@ci.denver.co.us, jeanne.robb@ci.denver.co.us,

linkhartatlarge@ci.denver.co.us, dencc@ci.denver.co.us,
shelley.smith@ci.denver.co.us, MileHighMayor@ci.denver.co.us,
governorowens@state.co.us, admincomments@ci.denver.co.us

-- To call and voice your opinion, the administration's number is
(720) 865-9534.

-- Their website is:
http://www.denvergov.org/jump_elected_officials.asp

2) WHO NEEDS TO WRITE

-- It is IMPERATIVE that they hear from as many people in Denver
against the ban as possible.

-- Although the City Council only wants to hear from people in
Denver, it doesn't hurt for them to get a national outcry!

3) YOUR MESSAGE

-- YES, it's OUTRAGEOUS and BARBARIC that this IS happening, but ONLY
POLITE, yet DIRECT, e-mails will be heeded.

-- I think it's OK to express emotion, but NOT in a condescending way
(no name calling or nastiness). For example, I don't think there's
anything wrong with: "I am writing to express my outrage (or concern)
over the recent enactment of the ban on pitbulls in Denver, CO, and
am requesting that you repeal the ban immediately before anymore
innocent dogs get killed, while respectable owners and kids cry
themselves to sleep. I have had known many great pitbulls and have
shared terrific experiences with them, and I am absolutely sickened
that the dogs and their responsible owners, instead of the heinous
criminals, are the ones to suffer. They have suffered enough." PLEASE
PUT IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

-- I think folks should be telling loving stories about pits they
know; how unfair it is for the dogs to be biased against when all
they want to do is to please and love humans; that it's the criminals
that should be punished, not the breed; etc.

4) FACTS ABOUT THIS BAN:

The ban was enforced for many years. Originally, existing pit bulls
were grandfathered in, but after that initial group, any additional
pits were banned and were picked up. The state legislature tried to
prohibit breed-specific bans, and the case went to court for about
one year. During the past year, Animal Control did not enforce it.
Once the city of Denver won the case, however, the city resumed
enforcement, giving owners one month's notice. The notice period was
over May 9.
