Important Notes About the AOS Launch Gift May 28 2003 11:25AM CST (GMT -06:00)
Please be aware that only characters that are at least 30 days old are eligible to receive the AOS launch gift. Characters that reach 30 days in age before the launch gift period ends (which currently is slated for Publish 19 sometime in July) will have an opportunity to claim their gift once the character reaches 30 days.
Additionally, for anyone considering choosing the +5 skill increase as their AOS gift choice, it’s important to note that if you are wearing skill-enhancing items that bring you to within 5 points of your skill cap, you may not receive the full benefit of the skill increase. For example, if you choose to use the skill increase to raise your Lockpicking skill from 95 to 100, but you’re wearing a +3 item that gives you 98 Lockpicking, you will only receive a +2 bonus from the skill scroll as opposed to the +5 that you should receive.
For now, we recommend that anyone planning to use the skill increase as their AOS launch gift please be sure to first remove any items that increase that particular skill – especially if you are near your skill cap! For any players who may have already experienced this, we currently have a tool that will track these cases, and we are working to make that tool available to our Support team within a few days so they will be able to investigate and retroactively adjust these skill levels to where they should be. We’ll let you know when that’s ready, so until then, please understand our GMs won’t be able to adjust skill levels to fix this.
Keep in mind that there is another case that may also result in losing a few skill points from this bonus: if you use the skill increase on a skill that is already within 5 points of the cap, you will only get additional points to add up to the skill cap. For example, if your character has a Mining score of 98 (out of 100), and you use a skill increase, you will only receive a +2 to your skill, rather than the +5 that is possible from the skill increase. There is a warning provided in the game itself that lets players know ahead of time that they will not get the full +5 bonus in these situations, so read that warning carefully! GMs will not be able to adjust skill levels or reassign skill points in these cases.
