Step by Step Instructions on how to include pictures in your posts
I have been dabbling in picture hosting on the net.
I have just found this site that offers 20meg of free space. The big bonus is that they are one of the few free providers that allow remote-hosting. Don’t be put off by the name… C-Kids is a great site & one of the easiest to use.
This guide is purely how I do it & no doubt there may be better ways to approach pic posting, I find this works for me. If I can do it, any of you can. Trust me.
1/ Taking the screenshots
I use UOSU (UO-Screenshot Utility) which is free & available on the Stratics home page in their downloads section. It is a neat little proggy that takes pics with the push of a button (I use print-screen key)
It saves the pics as jpg’s, which are very compact in size. So now you have your piccies, you need to crop them.
2/ Cropping your pics
Using full screen pics is not recommended, as they are slow to load for the viewer & space hungry on the web server. I have been using a trial version of ACDSee which I got off one of those discs on a computer magazine. You could possibly download this off the web.
Trent has used MS Paint. Heres his tips on how its done….
The easiest way to save and crop pictures, (screen shots) is to use MS Paint, all of us have it. If you want to take lots of pics the screen shot program Syn recommends is best. But for one offs Paint will do fine, or to crop your pics.
Open your picture and around the part or parts you want to keep draw a "selection" box,(top right button, on tool bar on the left of your screen), and then right click within this area and select cut or copy. Open a new image and right click to paste and you are done, save your image as a .jpg. You can use this smaller image for your posts to the forum.
You only need something basic that allows you to crop.
3/ Filing/managing your pics
I have found the best way to save your cropped pics is using a name in conjunction with a number sequence. This helps if you want to post multiple pics in your post to compose a story. It keeps things in order. Lately my cropped pics would look like this….
Serps_hold_battle_01.jpg
Serps_hold_battle_02.jpg
Serps_hold_battle_03.jpg
4/ Hosting your pics on C-Kids
Now you have your pics looking all nice & cropped, what next?
Go to C-Kids
Click to create a new account
Hit continue
Read terms & agree (if you choose to)
Create your account name, email & name.
Hit continue…& make a note of your page address.
Get the password from your email box.
Enter Account name & password.
Use the file manager to upload your cropped pics.
5/ Uploading your pics
Go to main page & log into your account. I ticked all the boxes to start with, but I think you would only need the image one for our purpose.
I created a new folder in the current directory called…......pics
Once that is done…Push select & go to the pics directory
At the bottom of page you will see……
File uploads -- Upload files from your hard drive to current directory
& Fields with browse next to them…..…push browse
You can then locate your cropped pics on your hard drive & upload them 5 at a time.
After they are uploaded, to the C-Kids site, they will appear above the file upload section.
Click the first file & you will see your picture.
Right click the picture, go to properties & highlight & copy the whole Address (URL) for that picture. e.g. http://www.c-kids.com/darkstone/pics/serps%20war%2001.JPG
When I have multiple pictures to post, I use MS Word to dump all (URL’s) (it saves some backwards & forwarding) & I add some captions/text so it may look like this in MS Word.....
http://www.c-kids.com/darkstone/pics/serps%20war%2001.JPG
The mighty SDP (Sworn Defenders of the People) assemble to thwart the Evil in the Battle of Serpents Hold.

The time has come for war…..

Now you can cut & paste all this into a post on the guild page.
OK, we are nearly there, but still a little to do.
Adding HTML tags so others can see your pics...
We need to add some HTML tags to the (URL’s) for them to display on the Darkstone forum.
DO NOT ADD THE TAGS UNTIL YOU ARE AT THE GUILD PAGE.
If you add them in Word they may not work on the forum.
Add before http….. < IMG src=” No spaces between < & IMG)
Add at the end…… “>
These are very important as without them, none of your good work will show.
Plz note….in the first 2 examples I have added a space added between < & IMG, so the pics wouldn’t show. In the third I did it correctly & the pic shows.
Remember… to make the pic show type…< IMG src=” “>
< IMG src=”htp://url_here”> No spaces between < & IMG)
Done wrong--extra spaces between < & IMG, so this example will show)
< IMG src=”http://www.c-kids.com/darkstone/pics/serps%20war%2001.JPG”>

Done right -- *crosses fingers there's a pic here*

These tags work for the Voyforums, but other forums may require different tags.
You can usually find a help section which will guide you on your way.
ALWAYS HIGHLIGHT YOUR WORK & COPY IT, BEFORE YOU POST.
That way, if you find you have made a mistake after you have posted, you can paste back your work & edit some more. It can be very infuriating to lose something you spent a lot of time on. So best to play it safe & copy first.
Adding Color to your posts….
If you want to add a bit of colour to your posts, you will need to use hex color codes e.g.
Green #33FF33
Purple #6633FF
White #FFFFFF
I use a hex color chart from this site.
So to make this word Green
You would type….
So to make this word < FONT color=”#color_code”^gt>Green < /FONT>
(No spaces between < & FONT)
So to make this word Green
If you want to practice these newfound skills before releasing them on the Guild forum, I have a forum that can be used.
Go crazy !! Make as many posts as you need to get it right, with no fear or risk of embarrassment. I will clear the posts often. It really isn’t that hard if you take it slowly.
