Looting in Felucca: Then and Now Dec 9 2002 6:15PM CST (GMT -06:00)
There's been some confusion lately as to the legality of looting blue corpses in Felucca towns. To clarify, here's how it is supposed to work. If you are looting the corpse of a blue player that you do not have the right to loot, you should turn criminal, and you should be summarily whacked by the ever-vigilant town guards if you're in a guard zone.
So now that we've talked about how it's supposed to work, let's talk about how it has worked for the last two years. At one point back in 2000, there was a problem with faction players going criminal for looting someone they'd lawfully damaged as part of the faction system. This was — obviously — a bad thing. We fixed it to make sure this wouldn't happen, but as part of this fix, we accidentally changed the system to not call guards on you for looting any blue corpses — even if you went criminal for doing it! This was not an intentional change; as we said before, guards are supposed to kill players who go criminal in their towns.
So why is this only now coming to light as an issue? Ever since Publish 16, blue players have been crowding into Felucca dungeon and Lost Land areas to fight Champions Spawns with their good equipment. And in some cases, they’ve been dying, teleporting back to healers, getting ressed, and then being killed — and looted — by players who aren’t getting killed by the guards. This is not the way the game mechanics are supposed to work. As of this week, we’re fixing the system, and guards will once again be called on players who are flagged as criminal by looting blue players in Feluccan guard zones.
How do you know if you can loot a blue character in Felucca overland areas without being flagged criminal? There are two ways:
(1) if you try to loot a character that you shouldn’t, the game will give you a message warning you that you could be flagged as a criminal, or
(2) you can ask yourself the following questions.
Is the blue in your guild?
Is the blue in the Thieves’ Guild?
Is the blue in a faction or warring guild, and did you do lawful damage to that character (meaning any damage that would not flag you as a criminal)?
Are you in the same party with the blue character and do you have looting rights turned on?
If the answer to all of the above questions is NO, then looting that blue should flag you as a criminal, AND get you killed by a guard if you are in a guard zone!
This fix should be live on Great Lakes tomorrow morning after maintenance (December 10 CST), and barring any unforeseen circumstances, live on all other shards the following day.
