Found on the GUL msg boards...
I saw a post earlier today from someone, asking how they could find out if something was illegal or not, and started thinking about how silly some of the policies in the game are, and how we are often left in the dark about whether or not something is bannable.
I thought I'd poke a little fun at the staff by writing a 'guide' for players about how to not get banned.
*Disclaimer: This guide is not an official OSI document, and should not be taken seriously by anyone. (I'd hate to get banned for impersonating staff! )

Hello Citizens of Britania!
From time to time we get requests from players asking us for a list of offenses that might get you jailed, suspended, or banned from the game. In the past it has been our policy to not list these things because we feel like doing so might take too much time and sometimes we don't feel like doing it and sometimes we are not sure if something is bannable until we ban you for doing it.
But, we have decided to go ahead and give you a heads-up on some things that might get you banned. We are not doing this because we have to, but because we are a kinder gentler staff and we care about you and want you to think you are being heard.
We love you.
Here is a list of a few things you might want to avoid if you value your account:
Stealing
Disarm-stealing - disarm stealing is ok sometimes, and sometimes it is not. Sometimes we put a neat new weapon on a monster that is not meant for players to have. Our dev team might or might not remember to make these items unstealable or impossible to disarm. We will not tell you when we do this, so you could end up stealing an item that you aren't supposed to have and doing so will endanger your account. The most recent example of this would be the Neira champion and her red sword. We forgot she had it and only remembered when players started posing with them at the Brit Bank. Anyone caught with such a weapon might or might not get banned. Your best bet here is to just not disarm/steal, in case the item you are stealing is added to our list of untouchable items for players.
Regular stealing - There is a bug that we might fix someday that lets thieves keep items they have just stolen, even if they die. Thieves using this bug to their advantage by performing the exploit of getting killed risk their accounts. If you think there is any chance that you could die in the near future, we suggest not stealing anything anywhere right before that time.
Stabling
Stabling pack animals with stuff on them is an exploit. Well, sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't but today it is so don't do it.
We realize that we used to have a code in place that told the player they can not stable a pet with items on it, and this prevented players from abusing this exploit. We broke that code when we were fixing something else, though, and don't know how to fix it. So if you accidentally leave something on your packhorse before stabling, you will no longer get a message telling you to empty its pack and could instead find yourself jailed for stabling.
Annoying the Banksitters
Please do not annoy the banksitters. These are the Elite of our playerbase. They have spent millions of gold to get their outfit [blessed] to coordinate with their horse, and countless hours practicing the fine art of sitting just right in the perfect spot. Please refrain from standing on them in your deathrobe and bone helmet, or following them around or doing anything else that might annoy them. This could be considered harrassment, and we have in the past taken action against those who insist on annoying the Banksitter. Take your pathetically-poor behind back to Felucca, n00b, and leave these players alone.
BOD Rewards
Some players were given better rewards for tailoring bulk order deeds than they were supposed to if they were performing the exploit of walking around close to their weight limit. Neon green and blue sandals were awarded to these exploiters instead of the crappy cloth that they should have gotten as a reward for spending hours and millions to get the proper sbods to fill their lbod. While we are not banning those who appear to be too poor to have earned those super cool sandals they are wearing, we reserve the right to do so in the future. A sure sign of a poor slob trying to pose as a true Elite player is having non blessed neon sandals, without even a horse to match them.
We know who you are.
Verbal Harrassment
We here at OSI have a Zero Tolerance policy for sexual, racial, or any other harrassment. We can and will deem any word bannable if we think that someone might be offended by it, even if that word is perfectly acceptable in society. We are a private company and can ban any word we want, and don't you forget it. We care about our players, and don't want them to have their feelings hurt. We also want to make sure that players have a way to get someone banned if they don't like him, or want his house spot, or just like getting people banned. To aid this endeavor, we have decided that even a typo or an innocent remark made in your home can be paged in as harrassment by a ghost or hidden player and immediate action will be taken. You can appeal later (after your house falls) by sending us an email that we will ignore. If you are not sure if a word is on our bannable list (which is understandable, since we don't know either) your best bet is just to not talk to other players. Just because this is a multiplayer game doesn't mean you need to go around talking to other players all the time.

Banning from a small tower
Somehow we broke the code on small towers, and getting banned from one will trap you under the house sign, unable to move in any direction. Exploiting this bug by banning people who run into your house and attack you should be avoided. We are thinking about fixing this bug sometime after we release our next expansion in 2003.
These are just a few of the things that you, our valued customer that we love dearly, should avoid if you do not want to risk getting banned.
You may page a Gamemaster (GM) to ask if something is legal. These gamemasters will give you a variety of answers depending on their mood, the time of day, and the color socks they are wearing. This is intentional. Our GMs are highly trained to keep players on their toes by offering vague answers or even blatantly false ones. We feel it adds to the excitement and mystery of the game for you to not always know the exact answer to a question. Imagine the thrill of being banned for something one day by a GM, when another GM told you just the day before that it was perfectly legal! Who says there is no risk in this game?!?
We hope that this guide has been helpful in informing you of some things that might or might not get you banned or suspended. Remember that this guide is not written in stone and we will change it as we see fit. Thank you for your understanding in these matters, and remember: We care about you.
