I want to skip to the Fire Seed How-To

The Solen apparently used to be regular ants until's the meer's failed decay spell somehow made them all intelligent. They come in black(Felucca) and red(Trammel) versions. Below is some some documentation on both. - Many images to load. Patience.

    Black Solen(Felucca):

    The Black Solen Worker:

The Solen workers seem to be the more plentiful of the two common types. They are generally a 2 e-bolt kill.

    The Black Solen Warrior:

The Solen warriors are very tough and spit acid which you should watch out for. They take 3 to 4 e-bolts to kill.

This is what a black solen warrior's loot looks like. The workers carry either 1 or 6 zoogi fungus, and the warriors carry either 3 or 13 zoogi fungus. Naturally, the chance to get the larger load of fungus is less frequent.

This picnic basket was recovered from a black solen warrior. No special care was taken when killing the warrior. It seems to be a chance happening.

    The Ambutious Black Solen Queen:

The Black Ambitious Solen Queen seeks to be the Matriarch of her colony and wishes to enlist the help of adventurers to snuff out her rivals. You can learn more about these quests in: Solen Queen Quest Information

    A Black Solen Queen:

This is one of the rival queens that ambitious queens want you to eliminate in their quests. You can learn more about these quests in: Solen Queen Quest Information

Black Solen Spawn Maps - Felucca Great Lakes

These are maps of black Solen spawn locations in Felucca. Each of these spawn sites were visited for a short time and all Solen encountered were marked on the map where they where found. The maps are layed out this way in an attempt to display the outlines and central area of the spawns, and give you a general idea of what to expect from a visit there. To reduce loading time, the maps have been moved to their own page.

Black Solen Ant Holes - Felucca Great Lakes

You cannot "fall" into an ant hole. To investigate an ant hole, you must stand near or on it and double-click the hole. Not all ant holes go to the hive. A picture of holes that don't go to the hive is shown to the right. These are maps to Black Solen ant holes in Felucca. It's not known as this time if they will be changed anytime soon, so make use of them while you can.

    Red Solen(Trammel):

    The Red Solen Worker:

The Solen workers seem to be the more plentiful of the two common types. They are generally a 2 e-bolt kill.

    The Red Solen Warrior:

The Solen warriors are very tough and spit acid which you should watch out for. They take 3 to 4 e-bolts to kill.

This was taken from a red solen warrior. They come on black ones as well.

The loot carried by the red Solen seems to be the same as that carried by their black counterparts.

    The Ambutious Red Solen Queen:

The Red Ambitious Solen Queen seeks to be the Matriarch of her colony and wishes to enlist the help of adventurers to snuff out her rivals. You can learn more about these quests in: Solen Queen Quest Information

Red Solen Spawn Maps - Trammel Great Lakes

These are maps of red Solen spawn locations in Trammel.

    Giant Beetles:

    The Giant Beetle:

The giant beetles appear in both Felucca and Trammel. They have a strong melee attack and a berserking attack when damage. Whenever a giant beetle receieved damaged, they will go berserk and persue their attacker at triple-speed for several seconds before calming down.

Beetles on the surface can be tamed. They can be ridden and also have a backpack which can be used for storage. Giant beetles in the hive cannot be tamed. As a pet seems to be their only good use as they carry no known loot.

Once a beetle has lost most of it's life, it will have been beaten into subjugation and can then be tamed.

    Ant Lions:

    The Ant Lion:

The ant lions appear in both Felucca and Trammel. They have a strong melee attack as well as an acid-spitting attack. They also have a sneak attack where they burrow into the ground and pop up under you.

Ant Lions carry gold, bones, gems, firtile dirt, and ore. It's also said that they carry the remains of certain character types including rogue, bard, and some other type. Miner perhaps. These appear as bones with a lable correspinding to the type of character they belonged to. These remains have the equipment that goes along with that character type.

    Green Thorns:

Green thorns are the new resource that have been released with this scenario. "What do they have to do with the scenario?" you ask? Well, I suppose they were releaed with it and that's good enough! These resources can be produced by bright green snakeplants and single-barrel cacti.

This is what the green thorn looks like.

You cannot plant it in the grass!

Find some dirt and push that needle into it.

    Reagents are spontaneously appearing!

Not bad for 1 resource. On this particular growth, we have made: 35 ash, 26 moss, 19 silk, and 15 mandrake.

Here are the grow-your-own-reagents plants that everyone was hoping for when plants were first implemented.

    The Naturalists:

The Naturalists are coming out to express their interest in the newly-emerged Solen, and they'd like to enlist the help of players to accomplish their research goals. Below, you can learn more about:
