A memorial for Lockie -Oceania Shard
then they can see by volume it should be done
Hail to you,
It is with a saddened heart I write you this day.
Friday, 1 November 2002, a fellow UO player was tragically taken from us. He served in the Australian Air Force and was killed while driving in a convoy in Northern Australia.
He was 28 years old and left behind him a wife of one year, as well as many friends and other family.
My main ingame character is Grizzly Adams, we played together on the Oceania shard, Matt had 3 characters in our Guild, the Defenders of Darkstone (DoD). Matt had a drive and enthusiasm for UO that I have rarely seen. He was always the first to offer help to anyone in any form. He touched the hearts of many, many people here on Oceania. This is why I am writing this plea to you now.
I would like to know if it is possible to arrange a permanent memorial of some sort ingame. We (our guild) are not asking for some huge monument, merely something people can stop by and see and remember him by.
A small garden or a flower, or a statue named after him.
Perhaps an obsidian statue with Lockie on it.
Some way to immortalise his memory for those that knew him.
If you were hesitant about putting something like this in the open world, we would be happy to have it placed permanently in our main guild house or keep. Our main guild house is named the Darkstone Wanderers Taverns. It has stood since the very first day large housing was allowed on the Trammel facet on Oceania. It has been our guild house since the creation of our guild. The number of visitors should hold some testimony to the time it has stood .. 6008. As you would agree a large number considering the size of our shard.
I am only telling you all this so you may know we have no intention of pulling down or replacing or selling the house, so if you were to agree to placing a memorial to our lost friend Lockie/Darrien Silvara/Callus/Dea'arrna/Leithalien, it would remain a revered and most sacred of places for the memorial. We do not want him forgotten.
I look forward to a favourable reply,
Grizzly Adams/Trentham Lorne/Sandon Mystic/Jaimison Oak/Mr Claus (DoD)
John (Email supplied)
Another penned by Gullveig….
Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to support the request of John Adamson (Grizzly Adams) for an in-game memorial for Matt ( Lockie) who was tragically taken from us on 1/11/02 at only 28 years of age. He was one of my guild comrades in Defenders of Darkstone (DoD -a veteran-ranked guild based around a player town, Darkstone, on Oceania) but further than this was known and respected by many, many players on our shard.
In addition to his RL job serving in the Air Force, and his 3 DoD characters, Lockie somehow found time to be GM of a small drow guild, Bregan Dearthe, and also played an Elven character in a third guild, Citizens of Sanctuary (another guild-run town on Oceania).
A courageous and accomplished virtual warrior, Lockie was always out and about in this virtual world which he so loved, and gave unstintingly of his time to help others. Given the size of our shard this, together with his guild activities and love of role-playing, brought him into contact with many Oceania players who now feel deeply shocked and saddened by his untimely death, to the extent many have commented it has diminished their ability to engage with UO.
A memorial for Lockie would speak volumes about your commitment to the player community of Oceania - as we are all seperated by distance, it will let us say goodbye in a way we cannot do in the real world, and to remember him, and for me anyway, to feel good about the game again.
Please, please consider this heartfelt request.
Sincerely,
Joanna
