Taming, is like many other skills in the way gains are given.
First rule of Taming is tame, tame, tame.
Second rule of Taming is repeat rule one 10 times

It matters little on the type of creature you tame in as much as you can get good gains from bulls all the way to GM.

The basic rule of thumb is to tame critters that you suceed most of the time on (Bulls, Great Hearts, White wolves) out of power hour and during power hour the same critters but preferably ones that have been tamed once or twice already.

This way you fail lots during power hour to get the most gains, some times i would fail 6 o 7 times in a row on a bull tamed twice already. Taming skill required for
Bulls 1st tame - 71.1, 2nd tame - 75.9 and 3rd tame 90.3
Frenzied 1st tame - 77.1

So busy peek times at Delucia, Jhelom Farm and Ice Island will help you to gain more during power hour.

Above all else dont give up, many p/hours would pass with out any gains at all. It all part of the fun *lol*.
