Hail Defenders of Darkstone!
I'd like to take the time here to personally thanks and congratulate those of you that joined with the army led by the Night's Watch into Dungeon Ice on Sunday.
The force amassed was a sight to behold - The Night's Watch, Defenders of Darkstone, Virtuous Knights of the Realm, several independant warriors and mages as well as Salt of the Earth. I understand that there is tension between DoD and SoE, but I appreciate that DoD could put aside those differences for the afternoon and band together for the greater good.
The forces were split into three distinct groups - scouts, warriors and mages. The scouts lured powerful foes towards the main group.... the warriors formed the classic "wall of steel" and the mages formed up behind to cast over the heads of the massed steel at the icy foes, and to channel healing magic into their warrior comerades.
I for one have not ever before witnessed such a display of courage and glory:the scouts flushed an ice fiend, white wyrm, arctic ogre lords, several ice and snow elementals and frost trolls, and countless ice serpents out from their lairs all at once and drew them towards the waiting wall of steel. We waited, in our heavy armour on the west bridge with the mages safely behind us. The scouts must have flushed out most of the denizens in the entire dungeon level in the one hit and lured them onto the awaiting warriors. The contact seemed to last for an eternity - furious, strenuous, chaotic.... but amidst the turmoil the warriors stood firm, cross-healed and punished the icy beasts that confronted us. It was akin to the ocean breaking upon a wall..... wave after wave crashed upon us but the wall stood firm. I had never in 40 months of playing UO witnessed such a display of determination and teamwork - and I've never heard of such a terrible mass of creatures such as nearly the entire spawn from the main level of the dungeon ever being vanquished in one contact before....
It is a great tribute to those who joined in on Sunday, one that will last long in the memory of those that attended.
Again, thankyou for being a part of what was truely a glorious expedition into the icy depths of one of the toughest dungeons in the realm!
