ok derek only 3 ways he could have got your account
he guessed(highly unlikely)
you or your bro told him your details(even more unlikely
or------ u have in the past accepted a file from him(or a friend of his) either through email or your icq(you did say he was on your list).its also possible you may have already been infected with something and he just scanned your ip to see if any trojans were active.
I will direct the rest of this msg to everyone
1.get a virus checker and make sure its option to scan email and on opening and executing a file are set to on.
2. this is probably obvious to most but is a common problem for some.Make sure you keep your virus scanners virus list updated(at least once a week).
3.never ever accept an executable file through your icq or email and run it,this is how most accounts are hacked because a trojan progaram can actually be attached to executable files and run without you knowing.
for those not aware a trojan can allow others to access everything on your computer(pwords,files etc)and also in some cases allow them to control it(like changing your background wallpaper or taking control of your mouse pointer),some can even monitor your private icq conversations.
4. install a firewall program(www.zonealarm.com is a good free one).
thats about it if anyone else has anything to add to help combat this sort of thing please do!.
p.s remember u can pick up a virus or trojan just about anywhere on the net from downloading something of a napster type program or running that latest game or program crack that allows you to use it without paying tsk tsk *grins*
even some of those nice ultima online hacks u download can contain them ;)P .
