Chapter 2

“Wooosh…. I’m happy to get out of that sufferable place!” Thao remarked and sigh. “I can not stand another minute at a party like that!” They were setting at a restaurant an hour later after they departed from the party place. Thao sipping her drinks while the waiter placing their deserts on the table. When the waiter leave, she said happily, “Now, this is what I call heaven,” picking up her fork, she dig into her cheese cake and sigh with delight. “Ummm… right now, no kisses in the world taste better than this cheese cake!” To prove it, she digs into the cake without another word until the cake disappears.

“Get down, girl!” M Tuyet snorted, “don’t expect us to believe that.”

“Girl friend, believe it,” Thao giggles, “I wouldn’t lie to you for that matter.”

As Thao and M Tuyet continue in their argument, Cam listens with amusement. She was glad that she had agreed to go with them, for it’s fun in knowing them. At first, she thought Tuyet and Thao had known each other long before they come to know her. After an hour of talking to them, she learned that, the three of them just know each other tonight. Thao told her that she met Tuyet as they were about to enter the entrance of the hotel and than met again while both tried to find a way to get into the party. “I felt quite silly acting as though I’m trying to snick into the party.” That’s what both of them had said. Now, looking at them, she still didn’t believe they just met tonight for the way they act, if one does not known, they were the best of friends long before. Well, of course, that’s included her. She feels happy herself too. She has never felt like this before, not with her other friends. With her other friends, she doesn’t feel like telling them of anything, but in this case, she found herself telling this two new friends almost of everything. She doesn’t want to withhold anything from them and they feel the same; and in an hour, she learned so much from them as well. She has never feel this independent before and there is more…the felling of freedom and joyous. Than Thao’s voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Girlfriend, what are you just thinking of now?” Thao said and leaned back in her seat.
“Just how happy I am to knows the two of you,” Cam said seriously. “You guys just looks so confident and sure of yourself, and I wish to be like the two of you,” she look from one to the other, “how did you get to be so independent and high spirits.” although it was a question but they know it to be an understatement.

“I confess, the only way I known of it is that I refused to be unhappy,” said Tuyet with a shake of her head.

“Well, I second that, but for me, I damned everything with not a least of concern,” Thao put in, “and why not, I hate to think, for thinking get you no where!”

“Well, that’s good for the two of you to said,” said Cam.

“Did I hear a but?” asked Thao.

“To some people, like me, want to feel free and independent,” Cam sighed, “but sometime it’s just doesn’t work out that way for some people.”

“Umm, when I first saw you tonight at the party…I know right away that you’re not very happy…oh, and who is that handsome guy you talk to?” Thao asked.

“Oh, you mean Lam Truong?” asked Cam, “Well, he’s my friend…actually, he’s more my parents friend than my friend.”

“Explain that please,” Thao looked at Cam.

“Thao, don’t tell me you’re interest in this guy, are you?” Tuyet frown.

“Get real girlfriend….a snob like him, I wouldn’t dream of it,” exclaimed Thao with a grin, “But to think of it…he do look cute, don’t you think?” she look to Cam and Tuyet who shook their head.

“Okay, maybe he’s not cute to the two of you…but…..

Cam cut Thao words, “It’s not about he’s cute or not…but left you alone with the guy for five minutes…all you hears is how good and rich and handsome he is…with him, you never have a chance to open your mouth.”

“Is he really that self-absorb…I mean, when you first look at the guy, he look very nice and sincere…okay, no more talk about him,” Thao giggled, “So, do you guys have any plan for summer?”

Cam and Tuyet shook their head.

“Is there a reason to that?” Thao asked both of them.

Tuyet look out the window and notice that the night is late; but for the first time she was not concern, “Every summer my family aboard a plane to visit relatives and friends…and that including me.”

“You don’t seem like you to want to go, are you?” asked Thao.

“You’re right, I’m not,” said Tuyet, “To tell you guys the truth, I hate to go aboard with my parents to visit relatives and friends….all they ever talked about was gossip and money!!!” Tuyet said and getting mad at the subject they’re on.

“I didn’t know you were from a rich family too,” Thao said and was surprised.

“Believe me, I have more money than I ever know what to do with it,” said Tuyet.

“Some how I don’t think you like being rich, am I right?” Thao asked and she started to get annoyed with the subject too, “Well, to tell you guys the truth, I came from a rich family that I’m not proud of as well.”

Cam was surprised, “You too?”

“Sorry to disappointed you, girlfriend, but yes,” Thao baited out, “Don’t we all hate being rich.”

Cam shook her head and said, “Can we change to a different subject?”

“How ‘bout we talk about guys?” asked Thao and she gave them a sweet smile.

Tuyet look out the window and make a comment, “Talk about gays…here comes a bunch of them.”

Cam and Thao turned and look out the window.

“Wow…would you look at those guys!!!” exclaimed Thao.

“Seem to me they’re a bunch of jerk!” Cam replied…even though she didn’t really see them that well.

“Do you have something against guys?” Thao turn her attention to Cam.

“No…why do you asked?” asked Cam.

“Oh, just want to know,” she look out the window again, “Hey, that dude in jean is cute!!!”

“He sure is,” Tuyet mumble, “You know…I always have a liking to guys who wear torn jean...very sexy.”

The groups of guy enter the restaurant and they head toward the smoking section. Cam has never met any groups that make so much noise as the group that is sitting at the smoking section. Cam wonder how the guy in jean look…both of her friends said he’s good looking. Cam can’t see him from a distance…she don’t have her glass on. Until now, none of her friends know that she need a glass in order to see well…but she’s not going to tell them and let them make fun of her! Cam didn’t even noticed that she’s staring at one of the guy sitting at the smoking table until her friends called out…

“Ahem…migosh Cam…you don’t have to look like you never see a handsome guy before,” Thao blurted out and Cam turn red all over. Cam about to give Thao a piece of her mind but out of the corner of her eyes, she finally see him….He turn around and stand up…oh, darn it!!! She forgot that she didn’t have her glass so, his features is still mysterious to her eyes.

The waiter approached the group of guy to take order. A moment later she heard his voice…. so loud when he blurted out and gave the waiter a piece of his mind…Gosh, the guy think that nobody is in the restaurant or something?


“Shit man! I’m ordering not standing here for you to interview me…just write down the damn food that I want, man!”

“But…but I have to write down your name so I can bring the food to you when its finish,” the waiter voice sound shaky, “and please understand that with so many customers here…it’s hard for us to keep track of who’s ordering what.”

“Big bro…just give him your name,” said another guy at the table and this guy seem to be the youngest one sitting at the table.

“Hey…Truong Dinh is right there,” another guy said and start to take over the order himself. When the waiter left, he turn and asked the guy in jean, “Say, Dan Truong, what’s ticking you, man?”

Dan Truong shook his head, “I guess it’s one of those day that you just get mad for no reason.”

“For some reason, I still think you’re mad….it’s because of the girl at the bar…Am I rite?”

“Jimmy, why don’t you just shut up?” Dan Truong gave Jimmy a look that dared him to say more but Jimmy know better when to back off. So, Jimmy turn his attention to Truong Dinh, “So, tell me, are you going to go with your brother to tonight concert?”
“Yes…wouldn’t miss it…bunch of chic there, you know?” Truong Dinh smiled innocently.

“Gosh, what have to teach your bro into, DT…a womanizer at this early of age?” a guy name Alec asked for the first time.

“Don’t blamed me…it’s my father who he’s taking after!!!” and they all laughed.

At the other table, Cam shook her head in disgust; but Thao and MT listened with interested. For all Cam know…those guys are a bunch of jerks!!! She wonder how her two friends prefer those type of guys…All she know is that…those type of guys could easily break a girl heart in no time. She find those guys are not to her liking at all…Why, any girl who is smart enough would run as far and as fast away from those type of guys!!! Well, if she were truth to herself…for some reason, her eyes just keep docking back and forth to the guy name Dan Truong; and she have to wonder why is that? When he tuned around in his seat, she looked….when he stand up, she looked. And when he talked and laughed, her ears just opened wide. Oh boy, but she have to admitted that the guy do have good voice and his laughter are like music to the ears!!!

“Earth to Cam…earth to…

Thao called out to Cam, but for a moment, Cam was somewhere lost in clouds nine.

“Oh, what did you just said?…I’m sorry, I was just…..

“Staring!” Tuyet interjected.

Cam put both hands up to cover her now Big Red face, “Oh, was I really did that?”

“What? That we caught you staring?” Tuyet teased and happy to see that Cam’s face was even more red.

“I did no such thing! I was just thinking, that’s all.” she lied.

“What a liar our Cam is! And here I thought you are not capable at it.” again, Tuyet teased her.

“Oh, do stop…if her face get any redder…I might think she’s having a fever,” Thao trying to sound serious but failed to…for she end up busting out laughing too. She laughed and hit the table with her palms at the same time. And by doing that…everybody in the restaurant turned around and stared at them.

“Dang! That chic do know how to laugh…say, how ‘bout we come over and do a little get to know?” Jimmy gave an encouraged look around the table.

“Forget it,” said Alec, “I have one girl and I can’t even handle her…Damn, the girl is just so jealous!!”

“Where’s Vicky now?” DT interrupted.

“Off to spend a weekend with her parent in the countryside…who know where that is.” Alec tried to acted like he’s annoyed with the sudden changed of subject; but when every time mention of Vicky…his face seemed to softened…like he is right now.

“My gosh!!! You miss her!!” DT blurted out and laughed in delight when Alec face turned red.

“Like hell I miss her! Don’t know what the chic feed me…but I have to admit that I miss her when she’s not around to bellyache me.”

“For once I thought that you’re happy to finally have a few days of freedom…the chic sure are make of stern and stuff,” Jimmy said.

“Uhh…sorry if this is out of topic…but it’s time for bro DT to leave now,” interrupted TD and he noticed that DT is now looking at his watch too.

DT pulled back his chair and stand up, “Sorry guys, but I got to go now…so, see you guys there tonight, rite?”

“No shit!” Alec and Jimmy said in unison.

“By the by…I thought we still have sometime to hook up with those chics over there,” Everybody looking over at the table where the three girls sit…but all they see is the waiter clearing the now empty table.

DT drew in his brows and asked teasingly, “Now, do you still want to know them?”

“Guess not…but shit! I found the girl that laughed so hard very cute,” said Jimmy with a little disappointment.

“Alright, I’d let my oto babe sitting out there too long now…got to go,” with that, DT left and flowered after him was his little brother, Truong Dinh.
