What makes you suspicious? It's only uncaused in the sense that you cannot point to any specific reasons why or why not the decision to exert the moral effort needed to rise to duty where pressure pushes in the contrary direction was carried through. Campbell writes, "nothing determines the act save the agent's doing of it". If you want to think of it that way, then, the sole "cause" of such an action is simply one's own self, and nothing more. When you find yourself in a similar situation there should be no denying that such a thing can happen - how could you? What may be meaningless to observers is real and important to you.
