Blackdog was... persistent. Actually, he was spamming the board with the (apparently in an email to someone) stated intent of shutting it down. He made new IDs, and alternated being nasty and nice, and it eventually ground the board to a halt because nobody could be sure whether every newbie was blackdog or not. Then came the division over how to treat BD and other newbies, and things went from bad to worse.

He wasn't ban-able for some reason (probably a dynamic IP or he used an AOL proxy server) so things got really bad.

At least, that's my recollection of it; I wasn't posting much then since my internet access with limited then.
