Other metal surfaces don't seem to be a problem. It's just the cars.

Though when my sister and I were little, Mom used to tell us to stay away from anything metallic during thunderstorms so the lightning wouldn't get us. Apparently there are several relatives/ancestors that got struck by lightning when supposedly safely on their porches, and one instance of someone getting followed around their house by ball lightning, so Mom was a wee bit paranoid.

What the heck, I was little...I believed it. :P
