Subject: Foxey 50 is what we are!
In reply to: Feather 's message, "RE: Happy Birthday belated Poppie! Is it May 2 or 1? I'm the 3rd but I am 50 now.So hi to all my friends of their 50's Love Feather Hare Krsna!" on 21:50:58 05/04/02 Sat

Its a little un-nerving turning 50. It is possible to hang onto delusions of youthfulness all the way to the end of one's 40's. Right up to the point of being 49 and 11/12, its not a lie to say that we're 40-something. I went through a thing when I hit 50 last October, "OK, this is it, no more denial, you're old now..."

Signing up for AARP and getting the card [and the rental car and motel discounts!] was worse than the birthday. Now there's a milestone that sucks dead rats.

I have now come to the conclusion that 1) 50 is not that old, and 2) old is a whole lot better than dead. So, we're 50. We're alive, we've managed to keep the dragon from killing us this long. 50 means we're another step closer to living a normal lifespan in reasonably good health in spite of 'Cyrus the Virus.' Considering in '98 I expected to be dead of liver failure by now, I am delighted to be 50.

So, here we are and there's not a damn thing we can do about it and it beats the hell out of being dead. 'Do not go gently into that good night.' Pop a couple of estrogens [my new 'drug of choice'], banish those hot flashes, break out the hair dye, and resolve to be Foxey 50.

Happy Birthday, all you Taurus the bullheads out there -- Poppie, Feather, Rick. [No estrogen for you, Rick.] 50 is not so bad. We're all in the same boat so lets make the best of it.
