Subject: UPDATE -- on the California LiverWalk: A mini-walk, held 3/21 in Los Gatos, CA!! (loooong post -- but there y'go!)

OR: The Sage of the HepHepAway Team!!

Hi y'all.... Wanted to let you guys know how we did [the Tooshter made me do this!]. THANK you, ThisBoard, for coming up with some entertaining team names that we could choose from. ('The Happy Heppers' was right up there in the voting, but one gal [on treatment] just couldn't take it. She heard 'Heifers' instead of 'Heppers' every time anybody said it out loud-lol!)

So... this was the first event held anywhere near here that was specifically for Livers (I guess they've had some LiverWalks, mixed in with other organs and illnesses -- HeartWalk-plus-LiverWalk, CancerWalk-plus-LiverWalk, etc., in the past; and there are Liver Teams that participate in the Bay-to-Breakers walk/run). This year they're holding at least three little walks dedicated to *our organ* (no, shut your dirty mind, guys!! I mean our livers!!)

We had probably 100 people all together, some focusing on Organ Donor Awareness. There were at least two very-successful liver transplant recipients there. Katie Galloway, San Francisco ALF, who organized it, said "Everyone who participated, including some of our food donors, our volunteers and even the people at Vasona Lake Park were all personally affected by liver disease. The day was a huge success and it is just going to get bigger and better."

So far this li'l ol' mini-walk has raised $17,000 and counting!! And our HepHepAway Team has (so far) contributed $900 to that amount! Yay! (Contributions still count until June 21.)

SPECIAL thanks to Dudesmom-Anna and Kirk, the MisterPitster-aka: Pit, for their donations. I got a shirt!! AND, I was able to get 3 other people shirts, including 2 little girls who were LiverWalkers!! And VERY SPECIAL thanks to HarleyCat, who came alllll the way over to walk with us, and raised a hecka lotta donations herself. No, she didn't bring her Hawg. She'd spent the whole day before, from 'can-see' to 'cain't-see', on her Harley, ripping up the California Coast. So I finally got to meet her -- it's great meeting old friends for the very first time! (Can't wait for the HepFEST!!)

And, here's the next ALF event in the Bay Area (I'll let Katie's words tell you):
"We will be presenting awards to our top 2002 California LiverWalk teams and individuals at our Annual Meeting and Liver Update Reception on June 19th at the Crowne Plaza in Foster City from 6:15pm – 8:00pm! Come and enjoy pictures from the California LiverWalk, cheer on your fellow walkers and stay for the Liver Update on “New Treatments for Hepatitis C” by Dr. Emmet Keeffe and an update on the ALF funded research grant by Dr. Jeffrey Glenn. RSVP to Katie at 415/248-1060 ext. 13 or katie@liverlifeline.com."

So -- anybody who lives in our 'hood (Northern California) who wants to come on June 19 -- I'd LOVE to meetcha! Email me (click on my name on this loooooong post) and we'll figure out how to meet up!!
