Actually, it is a goal and a dream of mine for many moons to bail from the drudgery of the legal profession and write. I have a library of 'craft of writing' books and a couple of notebooks full of stalled ideas, stories and novels. Every morning when I put on the lawyer suit, I know this is not what I want to be doing. But, the bills must be paid. I took it in the shorts financially being too sick to work for four years [96-99]. The cabin was within $9,000 of being paid off and in 97 I had to refinance it to the hilt. There went my freedom for the next ten years. I am trying now to bust and pay off the second mortgage [$30,000] and be free of debt and able to slow down and be me.

Dennis [my signficant other] is actually the artist in the family. He's a former local 'rock star' and songwriter trapped in the life of a lawyer and single parent of two teenagers. He was in a 'Grateful Dead' kind of band in the 70's and 80's -- blues and Dead tunes and original stuff he writes all the words for. He gets in the 'zone' and the words and music flow out of him. His dream is to bail from the profession when the kids are launched and be a 'rock star' again.

I was almost free in '96 before I got sick and the bills just piled back up again [sigh].

On that note, its off to the DA's office for a fun and uplifting morning negotiating a plea in a child abuse case [sigh again...]

I priced a rental car from here. Now all I have to do is get off my fat ass and make a reservation before all the rooms are gone. We needed to pay the credit card down a bit to be able to do that....
