After working on lunging with girth pressure last time, I decided to do this again, and hopefully if all went well, I would lunge her with some more weight than I had last time. I had been working on her leading each and every day, as well as fastening the girth around her belly so she would grow accustomed to this. So after grooming her , she walked easily beside me to the schooling ring with no resistance of the lead rope. When I put on her girth, now a regular girth at a regular tightness, she barely moved. I gave her a pat and began to lunge her. I worked her at all gaits and then pulled her in and added some weight. She did not even take a minute to adjust to this weight and continued to move in her smooth free flowing gaits. I decided to take a slight risk and try a light saddle with no stirrups, no irons and no weight, I let it sit on her back for a while until she had forgotten about the weight and then juggled the saddle around on her back into a slightly different position. I had left a saddle hanging over the side of her stall for a week now, so she was not afraid of it at all. I just led her around by hand on her halter for 5 mins or so she would get used to the saddle moving as she walked. She only shuffled/sidestepped once and the saddle slipped slightly forward on one of her steps. She remained quite calm and well behaved for the rest of the lesson. I hosed her down afterward, fed her her favourite treat, a carrot and turned her out for the afternoon.
