I slipped into her stall, gave her a groom, clipped the led rope to her halter and took her to the saddling area, where I tacked her up in full eventing gear. It had been a while since she had been on the course, so she was a little excited as I trotted her to the 1st of the eventing courses. I jogged her around the start and as soon as she was warmed up and I had started my watch, we were off! The jumps were between 3’ and 3’6” in height and she had no problem with them. She was normally able to jump up to 4’ in height, but I’d opted for the lower course because of the fact it was xcountry, and therefore involved a lot of running and could be tiring. She jumped the first few jumps well, but the 5th jumps she took off a little fast and had a hard landing on the other side. I made sure she slowed down to take the 6th jump so she would not put her legs at risk again and she did. Jump number 9a and 9b was a double, and she took nice even paces and strides between them o she did no take off early or late. The 13th jump, a ditch, surprised her, but she still coped quite well, managing to slide down and canter onwards and we reached the final jumps I could see she was tiring but she had a lot of guts and was willing to give it all. I leant forward as we jumped though the 15th and final jump, a sort of keyhole jump made of brush. When we passed the finish line I slowed her to a slow canter and then a trot until she had cooled a little. I then brought her to a walk and circled her around the finish line. I glanced at my watch… we had done quite good time. Pleased, I gave her a pat and walked her to the washbay were I hosed her down. I turned her out into her regular paddock until sunset.
