I swung into the brown letrher jumping saddle and sat down on it.I adjusted my stirrups and lightly squeezed my prancing Holsteiner stallion, Calypso into a walk with my legs.I sat to the long strided movement of Calypso's walk and pushed my heels down & gripped the saddle with my legs for contact.Calypso stuck his nose into the air and pranced around the arena. The black stallion was excited to be out & to jump.I smiled to myself, Calypso would always be spirited and always liked to show off and act up in the arena.Of course, Calypso was always the perfect horse @ a show, but at home when you were just exercising him, he pranced around and liked to playfully buck in the arena. At the time he usually did, Calypso started playfully giving little bucks.I was used to his quirks and sat to the bucks, while pulling his head up and getting him to walk.I collected Calypso's walk, since he was almost trotting, and did a few half-passes with him to settle him down.I asked Calypso 2 trot and he moved up quickly into a very elongated, elegant trot.I posted to the rythm of the black, Holsteiner stallions trot and gripped more rein so I had more contact with his mouth.I let Calypso trot for a little while before cueing him to canter.Calypso sped forward into a rolling, long canter. Most people had trouble sitting to his canter, but I had ridden him lots before and let him go a little faster so he smoother out his canter.I cantered Calypso for some time before collecting his canter. When Calypso was in his jumper mode, he hated being slowed down.I made Calypso behave and got him to do a nicely collected canter. Then, I got Calypso to canter a circle and quickly cantered him 2 the first jumjp of the course I was doing with him.Calypso was all down to business now and did not do anything troublesome now.He cleared the 5 foot brush box and cantered on 2 a 5'-6" triple. This was the biggest jump in the course with the longest spread.Calypso sprang into the air and leaped over the giant triple jump.We did the rest of the course with no knocked rails and came to the last jump, I pushed Calypso into a hand-gallop and he soared over the last jump, which happened to be a fake brick wall.I slowed Calypso down to a walk and thought to myself, that was a amazing round, I know we got a wonderful time and Calypso didn't knock any rails! He is a awesome jumper!! I leaned forward & patted Calypso on the neck.He truned his head and looked at me with a gleam in his eye.Calypso gave a buck and nearly unseated me.I playfully frowned at my horse and dismounted.I shook my head and thought to myself, that horse is full of himself! I led Calypso back to the stable and untacked him before hosing him down.Calypso enjoyed the water running down his back and drank from the hose when I offered it to him.I led Calypso back to his stall & fly-sprayed him, put on his flysheet & mask, put on his boots and led him outside to his large, grassy paddock.Calypso cantered away from me when I let him out into the pasture after I had dug up a peppermint out of my pocket.I watched as Calypso galloped around his paddock, showing off for the mares.I dug another peppermint out of my pocket and popped it into my mouth, I watched Calypso's antics before walking back to the stable, with a lead rope in my hand, chewing a peppermint.
