Calypso stood still as I mounted up onto him and starting walking with just a light squeeze of my leg.Like usual, he bucked a few times alongside the rail & then settled down. The big black Holsteiner stallion was my prize horse, I had owned him since he was a weanling.of course, that was 7 years ago.Calypso was now all grown up and doing 5'-6" jump courses. The 17 hand stallion had come a long way since being a foal despite that he was so young to be jump 5'-6".I pulled myself out of my thoughts and paid attention to Calypso.jumping 5'-6" or not, Calypso loved to try stuff when his rider wasn't paying attention, just as I knew, Calypso bucked, I chuckled to myself when he finished bucking, realizing that he wasn't going to be able to dump me.I quickly warmed up the tall stallion at all 3 gaits before getting him to canter towards the first jump of the course.Calypso easily got over the 4'-6" coop and cantered on to the 5 foot single in front of us.The second after getting over that jump, he made a quick turn as I directed him to, and quickly cantered to the 5'-6" triple.Calypso leaped over the jump and sped on to another one, 11 jumps later, we finished the course.I glanced at my stop watch as we finished the course, 55 seconds over a 14 jump course, totally amazing!!! I slowed Calypso down to a walk and pressed the stop button on my stop watch.I quickly cooled out Calypso because it was hot out so I wasn't going to jump him anymore.I led him back to his stall & untacked him before leading him to the washracks, hosing him down & turning the big black stallion out in his own paddock, after feeding him a carrot of course. Then I walked back up to the house, my german sheperd, Buddy & my collie, Lincoln raced after me and quickly caught up with me.I raced them to the front door, of course, the dogs had won again!I patted them both on the heads and headed inside to feed them, it was time for the dogs afternoon snack, as I liked to call it.
