"Mr. Wonderful, is it a wonderful day to ride you?" I asked the 4 y/o, bay American Warmblood colt.Wonder just snorted at me & I said to him "I hope that means yes, because I'm going to ride you today." with that said, I grabbed a curry comb from the grooming box outside Wonder's stall & started grooming the bay colt.Mr. Wonderful loved to have his neck curried.I curried his ticklish spot & he stretched his neck & nickered softly."You like that boy? do ya?" I cooed to him.Mr. Wonderful snorted, as in agreement, & relaxed. When I finished grooming him, I tacked him up.Mr. Wonderful didn't exactly have the best ground manners a 4 y/o horse could have.I had bought Wonder when he was almost 4 years old, so I didn't know how well he was trained.Wonder was going to be a awesome dressage horse, & had the conformation + the spirit to be a jumper.Wonder was a little evil about having his girth tightened.Like usual, he swung his head around & tried to bite me so I'd stop tightening his girth, luckily, I had plenty of experience with horses who bit people when they tried to tighten the horses girth.I had my elbow up, & of course, Wonder ended up knocking my elbow with his teeth."Bad horse!" I scolded him.I finished with the girth & put on Wonder's bridle.I had to shove the bit in, Wonder was also evil about the bridle & kept holding his head up so I couldn't reach, trying to knock me over & walking off when the reins were around his neck. When I had finally put on his bridle, I led him out to the arena.(he tried to eat flakes of hay laying outside horses stalls)"Mr. Wonderful, I do believe that whoever named you did that on oppisite's day.You just might challenge Calypso for worst ground manners when he was your age!" I said to the bay stallion.I got on the American Warmblood(after he tried to take off when I was half way on him!) I went into "super-glue position" & lightly squeezed Wonder so he would walk.Wonder ignored me, & then took off @ a canter.I slowed him down to a halt, & tried a simple halt-walk transition again. This time, Wonder listened when I used a crop on him.Once I had Wonder walking.I sponged on the reins to slow him down, & brought my legs back a 2 inches, since I was using a dressage saddle. After walking Wonder for a while, I got him to trot, of course, he bucked a few times before trotting.I told the 4 y/o horse "I had better ride you a lot, or your going to be bad when you do a flat class at the big show coming up." I trotted Wonder for a while & then cued him to canter.Amazingly, Wonder was good about cantering & got on the right lead.I cantered him in both directions, & then did a lot of canter circles & figure eights with him.We didn't do a flying lead change on the figure eights, but Wonder got on the right lead again. Then I walked out Wonder & put him back in his stall.Next, I untacked the bay stallion, & put my tack away.I decided to help feed, so I walked over to the hay barn to help with feeding the many horses at Timeless Farm.
