Often, she remembers her youth; piano lessons, dancing lessons, riding lessons, all the lessons that could be offered to a young princess.
One lesson, however that they could not demonstrate or find in a book is the lesson of life…though they did try, they would always try.
On most occasions, the town's people see her only as queen, your majesty, woman of rank, soulless, the throne her only heart; of course most of the time they would be wrong.
All the training in the world could never have prepared her for this: queen, wife, mother, friend, grandmother, lover, counselor, and consoler. So many roles, no way could the all be counted.
Not that she doesn't appreciate the good in her life; it is simply that so much heartache has blinded her.
Now as she wanders the chambers of her king and husband, she remembers their youth together, their first meeting, new of the betrothal, their wedding, their first born.
Ah, Prince Leon, her eldest child, he had grown up much too fast, and much too wildly, she hasn't even seen him in what…a year? Yes, his only child, born to Marie, whom is now passed away, she is now a year old.
Without thought, she places her hand on her slightly swollen stomach, unconsciously hoping she will be able to hold onto this one, if she makes it through the birth.
Both she and Saxom know the dangers of childbirth especially at her age of thirty seven.
Sighing she picks up a handful of the papers burring Saxom's desk and wonders silently what new conflicts a child, and possibly no mother might bring to her cherished king, to her first and only love.
