One of the best ways to brute force a site (port 23 or 21) is to use Brutus. The only problem with brute forcing these ports is that they are probably the two ports that are most likely to be logged and monitored. To help counter this, Brutus allows the use of a SOCKS proxy (port 1080). This provides a significant way to hide your IP address.
