Places to AVOID at all costs...
Places to AVOID
----------------
SL1 - Slough Village
=====================
This place is the biggest toilet I have ever had the displeasure of attending. Right from the start this place makes you feel like s**t. As you walk up to the enterance you are greeted by about 3 meatheads with attitude, you are abruptly told to wait outside in the cold and the door is shut. Ordinarily at this point I would have walked away but on this occasion I decided to persevere as I was a guest. Anyway, after about 10mins the doors open and a big fat simpleton meathead calls you through one by one, even though it's quiet and there's no one about ? Then I was told to take my jacket off, I wasn't wearing one! I was told in loudly "It's got a zip"... What ? I had to laugh, Yes my top had a zip ? Well spotted, then the top meathead ran over and shouted "take your jaket off or get out!" Well what can you do ? I put my jacket in the cloakroom for a pound as I was not aloud to carry it ?
Still a bit shocked by the events at the door I walked through and was stoped by a friend on the dance floor, as we chatted I was pushed off the dance floor by one of the security staff and told "no smoking on the dance floor" What sort of place is this ?
I won't bore you with even more details of this sad sad club... If we can be so bold as to call it that ?
I'll just list a few more that shocked me.
A DJ that played on this night was thrown out by security.
A young lady was thrown out after being dragged across the club crying, and with her hands behind her back.
The sound system was very very distorted and muffled.
No atmosphere at all.
No people for that matter ?
Told to wait, on the way out (one by one)? WHY !
Well, that's it folks !
AVOID THIS RANCID PLACE !!!
If you have any comments or have been to this awful place please reply to this message and your comments will be posted on the board.
Have a very happy new year!

I agree with you completely !
I was dragged over to SL1 on boxing day and found the place to be the worst excuse for a club I've ever been to. It cost me ten pounds to get in as well ! Yes, ten pounds !!!
What a joke, never again...

I AGREE!!!!!
DO NOT go to Club SL1. I been there once before and felt so uncomfortable going in there because those idiotic meatheads were making my stay so unpleasant. They were full of attitude and I was also told off for smoking while on the dancefloor!
WHAT????
I've never had this problem before!
And as you say, the sound system was a pile of pants. I was going to go to the 12 years of classic house event (held on Boxing Day) but decided to go elsewhere due to my bad experience from the first visit. And now my last!
I've never seen so many people thrown out of a nightclub in one night. What the hell is wrong with those people? Have they never run a nightclub before?
If you want to have a good time, go and check out Scotch Bar in Windsor (Sunday nights rare groove) and there are loads of other places you can enjoy yourself.
Just whatever you do, stay away from Club SL1. Don't say I didn't warn you!
I had the same problem with a new bar that opened next to the Virgin cinema in Slough - and the meatheads there didn't let me in because they said I look as if I was dressed up like a builder (total bollocks I had no problems getting in anywhere else that night) - suffice to say they closed down after a few months. I hope the same happens to SL1.

We arrived at the door on Boxing day just after midnight.
Was told by one of the doormen "CLOSED MATE"
So we thought O.K fine.
But later on at about 1am, 4 people we know got straight in.....
I thought they are not allowed to admit anyone after midnight?????

Yeah we had the same trouble as well. We weren't allowed it at midnight but we knew of people who managed to get in after midnight (3 of my mates)
we came early the next time to see if it was any good, and to be honest this has got to be the worst club I've been to!
I've told everyone to steer clear and to save their money.
Hopefully the club will come under new management, maybe then we will see a venue worthy of the title "Nightclub"

Well, I hope it never earns the title "nightclub" because when they turned the carpark into SL1 I lost my job as carpark attendent. In addition to this there are quite a few people who would like to park thier cars under Slough Shopping Village again. Turn the place back into a carpark PLEASE ! This is definately the best solution and best use of the space...

Don't see what the fuss is all about - I love DJing to an empty club (ha ha)!
One thind that did amuse me was that one of the female bouncers came stomping over to the DJ booth towards the end of the night and I thought she was going to tell me to cut the music. Instead, she asked me if I could play the current track spinning ('Break for Love') right to the end!
I think it's safe to say that there won't be any more House events there anymore. If they do knock the place down can someone please sift out my copy of Alison Limerick's 'Where love lives' that fell through the crack behind the decks!!!

The crack behind the decks ?
Who's crack ?
and what were they doing behind the decks ?
he he he !!!
Anyway, on a serious note, this place SL1 doesn't seem to have a good word said about it ? Obviously everyone who has been there has a very low opinion of it. Quite rightly so by the sounds of it...
I think this should alert the management at SL1 to make some radical changes very very quickly ! Take this advice SL1 and you'll have a small chance of success, don't and you'll end up a carpark again !
Remember all these comments regarding SL1 have come from professional DJ's and promoters so listen to the voice of experience and more importantly listen to your customers, if you have any ?

lets get some facts right here.
lets give them some credit for oppening a new club in slough.
apart from that i,ve never seen a bigger pile of pants and i mean dam stinking steaming pooh filled pants. There seems to be more security than people in there. What do they think it is???? I,ve been there twice and thats enough. Both times its been dead. Christmas eve i just walked out at 1.00am and so did alot of other people by the looks of it.
Seems to be run by a bunch of clueless businessmen who are out of touch no offence he he i,m sure your good at running your property companies but nightclubs are a bit different. If you are gonna run a nightclub do your homework. Thing is some people have been watching a bit too much Eastenders, they think thats how a club should be. Supprised you dont see Steve Owen and Bepe when you walk into that dog fart sl1,s.
At the end of the day its a jokers club. It can be made decent and run ok with the right management. They need to take a leaf out of MATRIX in Reading i think. Get some decent dj,s in and get a name for themselves. Become a club everyone wants to go to. Why open a pants commercial club when you have an even bigger one at the end of the high street named harrys. Shut this dam crud club down cos its annoying me now. These people with the money are taking us for idiots and think we all want to listen to cheesey music, pay silly entrance fees, get hassle of their staff, and abide to stupid house rules. The staff kind of walk about like there in the next biggest thing since the MINISTRY.Get real
SL1,s make a few new year resolutions take a tip of me,here we go say this.
1. We are going to lower our prices
2. We are going to employ decent proffesional djs who play decent music
3. We are going to try and create a decent image that is not based on the normal crap you find in slough and provide customer satisfaction
4. We are going to be the best club not just in Slough but in Berkshire too.
5. We are going to be that dam good that MIXMAG will be banging on our door wanting to review our nites.
6. Most important at the end of the day you want to be the peoples choice, try consulting someone like PBFM as they can put you on the right track.
Its not too late SL1 we have all commited sins, keep the faith and the good man will see you through but you must change your ways. Trust me we,ve seen one club go down in Slough cos the way they treated there clubbers and promotors. Dont sit on your laurels SL1 cos without us theres no you. So it pays to listen to us.

What do you expect for god sake!! We're talking about another Harry's, not a nightclub.
My advise is "KEEP AWAY FROM ANYTHING REMOTELY SIMILAR TO SL1'S" .

Let's not assume that just because this club is based in Slough it automatically makes the place some Kev and Tracy pick-up joint. Afterall, remember the 'Yikes!' events held at the Centre during the heyday of acid house...? (Probably not I guess!)
Slough has long been overdue a decent underground club with a good vibe, professional staff and REAL DJ's playing REAL music ('you know, like the way we used to...?')
However, don't get me wrong - Harry's, Chicago's and the 412 all serve a good cause - keeping the pissed-up narrow-minded wankers at bay!
Peace,
Chris Woods

Re: Places to AVOID at all costs... -- steve houseproud promotions, 09:36:23 01/07/02 Mon (spider-tf072.proxy.aol.com/152.163.197.207)
First and foremost I like to wish the pointblank crew a happy New Year and to congratulate them on another year of quality radio.
Now lets cut to the chase
As one of the promotors involved in the boxing day bash I like to set the record straight and address a few of the issue mentioned on the message board about SL1s and the party on boxing day.
Ok leading up too the party we had heard stories about the doorstaff being heavy handed so this was a big worry for us
we had spoken to the owners on this issue and hoped there would be a more relaxed vibe on the night ( from the comments on the board this didn't happen )
Any one who ever went to Mirage and remembers the stories about the doorstaff and the lifts ( maybe a urban myth )knows how reputations can make or break a nightclub.
We have since spoke ( again) to the club about their doostaff and lets hope in the future things improve.
Admission price we must admit seemed very high at £10 but that is what is charged on a friday and saturday and the club asked if we could stick to that price. When asked how they can justify this fee they assured us it covered the staff wages and opening cost of a night ( there is 12 doorman most nights )On boxing day the club just broke even.
A dj was thrown out, I have spoken to this person and the doorstaff. This person was caught attempting to take drugs in the toilets. SL1s like Pointblank can't be seen promoting drug use.
The young lady who was thrown out was involved in a fight and asked to leave.
At the moment their is no admission after 12oclock this is the decision of the council(because its a new club ).
On the plus side I spoke to a lot of people who had a wicked night and loved the music.
Until the problems are addressed as a promotion team we won't be having any more parties there.
Many thanks Steve and Houseproud crew

Nice to hear someone explain the facts and put a few things into perspective...
I hope the management at SL1 take advantage of the advice given by House Proud and create a new and acceptable image for themselves.
Good luck all DJ's Promoters & clubs for the new year !!!

I would just like to clarify that any comments made here should be directed at the management and doorstaff of SL1's for the way that they handled the Boxing day event in question. It would not be fair to criticise the promotions organisation House Proud who no longer wish to be associated with the club.
I would be very grateful if the PBFM management could display this message for all to see.
Cheers,
Chris Woods

Re: Places to AVOID at all costs... -- unhappy clubber, 17:17:36 01/10/02 Thu (spider-loh-tc033.proxy.aol.com/195.93.34.163)
how can you justify and stick up for a clubs actions when you say you are no longer going to be doing business with them. It dosnt make sense. As for the goings on in Mirage beleive me they happened lol. I went down in the lift twice and lived to tell the tale lol, most people didnt. The doorstaff in SL1,s think they have a problem when in fact they dont have nothing major to deal with. And when they do they deal with it like morons on Crack. Mirage needed some serious bouncers cos they had some serious people in there. Trust me i,ve seen some stuff go down. SL1 is a pansies club. The bouncers need to take a tour round London or go up North just to see how tame theirs is. Whats the point of heavy handing a girl or beating up on defensless people. If they have done that in a London or Liverpool/Newcastle club they,d be looking at a drive by shooting. Alot needs to be done to help SL1,s out. I cant see it lasting much longer.

Re: Places to AVOID at all costs... -- PJ of Oldgeezer, 14:04:31 02/05/02 Tue (NoHost/195.172.31.41)
Why bother with any of it? SL1 aint exactly where it's at, so why go? You must be desperate for entertainment if you have to stay around Slough, get a life, get out and about. If you really want somewhere to avoid, avoid Slough High Street and the deadheads, pissheads, and crack driven juvenilles it contains, it's a wankers paradise. If someone from SL1 wants their club reviewed we at the Dance Kulture section of www.hedgemonkey.org will be glad to slag them off.
If you want somewhere to avoid around London Bridge, try avoiding the SE1 club, (what used to be the DROME), an excellent venue screwed up by profit orientated big business, otherwise known as the Management of BAGLEYS, another organisation that would seem,(from the evidence available to me), to put profit before peoples safety.
