Author: Jimmy
Subject: "'ere now, you guys 'ear sumthin'?"

Outside the massive vessel, where the construction worker welded alongside several other humans and an Autobot Micromaster or two, he paused and cocked his ear to the side. Clicking a button in the palm of his spacesuit he activated his comm-unit once more.

"'ere...sounds like a baby wot be rilly 'ngry, right? Making some awful fuss o'sorts."

The other workers chuckled, but Jimmy was certain he wasn't hearing things. Let the others think him a half-wit, let his family look down upon the only job he had qualified for when he arrived at SBR. He was proud of the life he had made for himself here, and was in control of every decision he made. It might not be the life others would choose for him, but he certainly was proud of it.

"Right...no regrets..." he thought as he reached one of the towers jutting out from the tubing surrounding their construct. The towers held building supplies, rations, and a small atmosphere so workers could take a break and remove their helmets after long hours welding outside. For the Cybertronian workers, there were energon ports. Each tower was connected via a special alloy tubing to the support beams, and these in turn to side tunnels leading to each of the four guard towers.

Jimmy made his way inside now and, upon sealing the airlock, punched in the code to restore the atmosphere and lighting(both of which are turned off when not in use to conserve power). His brow wrinkled as the room remained dark. Prying open the panel with a screwdriver, he shone his suit's wrist-beam on the circuitry, hoping to illuminate any blown fuse or diode. Everything seemed in order. Again he heard an infant, this time a sweet giggling sound rather than the distressed cry which first garnered his attention. He turned slowly and noticed a red glow coming from one of the tubes leading back to the station. Cautiously he drifted over to it and, grabbing a support rod, swung himself in feet first.

Jimmy slid several feet into the dark tubing, the stars and sparks from the welders lighting its translucent ribbed surface. Gone was the red glow now, and no infant's cry or coo could be heard. In its place, a bluish creature with several brain-like organs visible through its shell turned on Jimmy and punctured his suit with its yellow pincers. Jimmy didn't even have time to scream as explosive decompression claimed him, his body swelling and bursting within his suit as the Metroid drank deep the last of his ebbing life energies. Unhooking from the blood-spattered space-suit, the creature turned and drifted through the tubing toward the main Starbase. Behind him, Jimmy's comm-unit crackled with static and a hint of what could almost have been mistaken for a child's nursery rhyme...

"To eat is human
To digest divine."
-Mark Twain (1835-1910)
