Greetings,
My name is Kris Matthews and I would like to take a few minutes of your time to tell you about an awesome group of girls that make up the Lady Texans Select Softball Team. This team was formed in July 2007 and is based out of Corsicana , TX . Corsicana may sound familiar and that is because Corsicana is world famous for the Collin Street Bakery. Currently, we are playing in the 16 and under age group but will be moving to the 18 and under age group in the near future.
This team consists of a great group of girls that are dedicated to not only playing softball but to the Lady Texans Select Softball Team. As head coach of this organization, I could not have asked for a better group of girls and parents. This organization would not have been able to continue playing select softball for four years if we didn’t act as a team. This is not just a one person team; it is made up of multiple players, including parents and coaches. Without the dedication of the girls, their parents, and the coaching staff, the Lady Texans organization would not have been as successful as it has been. For example, just last month, we travelled to Oklahoma City , OK where we placed 4th in the National Triple Crown Tournament in the 16 and under age group.
The Lady Texans Select Softball Team uses the mottos “play hard and practice harder” and “to never give up”. The girls are taught to be professional and respectful to everyone both on and off the softball fields and not just when they are with this select softball team. Each individual player is held to a high standard but the team, as a whole, is held to an even higher standard.
As coaches, it is our hope that we are teaching the girls things they can use in their everyday life, not just in softball. It is also our hope and dream to see the girls play college softball but if they don't, we want them to take what they have learned from this organization and become successful in anything and everything they do. The girls are expected to give nothing but their best and always give 110% in everything they do, both on and off the softball fields.
Not only do they work hard during practices and tournaments, but they also work hard trying to earn money for this organization when not on the softball fields. Each player is expected to participate in team fundraisers, such as bake sales, raffles, and car washes, to help offset the cost of tournaments fees and equipment. Every team wants to look professional and have equipment that matches and is in good condition. With the way the economy is now, it is getting tougher on the parents to continuously support their daughter’s monetary needs to be able to participate with this organization. Therefore, this is the first time that I have felt the need to attempt to obtain a sponsor for this organization.
This coaching staff truly loves what we do and can’t wait to see how far they go in their softball careers and in their lives. Just like Corsicana is world famous for the Collin Street Bakery, it is our hope that the Lady Texans Select Softball Team is famous for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism both on and off the softball fields.
