Bassett Company is recalling 220,000 eyelash curlers because the plastic handles can detach and cause injury to the eyes and face. Eleven injuries have been reported, including abrasions, contusions and bruising in and around the eye, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday. The "Frosted Grip" curlers have pink plastic handles and a rubber refill pad. They were sold under multiple brand names including TRIM and Salon Plus. There are no identifying marks on the curlers, but the packaging has item numbers printed on it, varying by store: 5-87B (sold at Wal-Mart, CVS and Shopko), 5-87RA (sold at Rite Aid) and 5-87S (sold at Kroger). The eyelash curlers, which were made in China, were sold nationwide from September 2003 to June 2004 for $3 to $4. They were sold at CVS, Meijer, Kroger, Rite Aid, SaveMart, Shopko, and Wal-Mart. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact the Shelton, Conn., company for a prepaid mailer to return the eyelash curler for a free replacement and a $5 off coupon for any TRIM product.
