 Equinox Musings.....

As the aspen leaves yellow and the maples and oak express brilliant oranges and reds, I find
myself absorbed with the simple beauties all around....

Last week a group of Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery currently located in
India after having fled Tibet in 1959, came to my town to create a beautiful mandala, which took
several days of concentrated work. The mandala was completed on Saturday afternoon, photos
were taken by local admirers for an hour or so, and then the ceremony to destroy this fantastic
and beautiful creation commenced. The horns, chanting, and rituals were all very wonderful to
observe, it brought back many great memories of the 3 months I spent in Nepal in 1989 with
many Buddhist people. The mandala was then destroyed and I struggled with the emotions of
such a beautiful piece changing form. The sand was distributed to all interested in having a bit of
it, and the ceremony continued at our local river, pouring the remaining sand into the waters to
send the positive energy forth. The destruction of the mandala partially represents the
impermanence of the material world, be it people, place, or things...transcending the
form...there’s something quite freeing in that concept to me....the monks there creating the
mandala, all had to flee their homeland, Tibet, many of them tortured, but they still possess such
positivity and they all walk with a smile...they seem truly free.

This past Monday I flew over the Rocky Mountains, the physical backbone of the land mass of
the US, to grace myself with the lovely Eddie at his Denver performances at the historic
Paramount Theatre in downtown Denver. I also went to Seattle a few weeks ago to attend two of
his performances there. I really didn’t know what to expect...I didn’t know if Eddie would be
that good anymore since he’s dividing his life energy now between comedy and film, or if I
would be drawn to his comedy like I have been for the past four years. But I was not
dissappointed.....Sexie is very, very good with all new material that I felt to be intelligent, funny,
goofy, passionate, sometimes sick, and at times serious.....all the ingredients of a well rounded
performance.

The pre-show consists of blaring Tom Jones songs, with a lite stage in purple, pinks and blues of
a geometric(think spirogyra) design, followed by an introduction of 60's psychedelic designs
pulling you into Eddie’s world and Eddie’s style rock and roll music(more great stuff by Sarah
McGuinness). In Denver, Eddie walked out onto stage in a black leather skirt, black fishnet
stockings, his black stiletto knee high boots, the official Sexie tour performance greyish white
front button down blouse, fully endowed with black and red? bras (respectively) peaking out, red
fingernail polish, bright blue eye shadow, and glistening wine colored lips.....a beautiful creation
of male bravado, feminine sensibilities, sexy clothes, graceful movement and cerebral adventure.

At every show I’ve been to, Eddie has been welcomed onto stage with a standing ovation, a
enthusiastic, raucous crowd, that he’s immediately trained to not hoot and clap too much or in his
moments of “perfect bullshit”, someone(mostly Eddie I presume) will be distracted and we’ll all
miss out....ha. Each set lasts 50 minutes to an hour with one oncore, a situation from his lastest
“Muraya” film, that is hysterical and I think an absolutely perfect way to end the evening. There
has been new bits at each show I’ve been to, and with his main set list, he’s constantly moving
stuff around so it all seems new and different and incredibly funny. And a lot of the crowd
laughed uncontrollably throughout the entire performance....Eddie is definitely appreciated and
well loved.

In Denver both nights in the second set, a handsome camera man came out onto the stage and for
about a minute videotaped on the floor out towards the crowd with the view between Eddie’s
legs. Eddie was saying this has something to do with the DVD filming(?) and was joking that
someone would think it was some kind of porn filming...it was pretty funny. While this was
going on Eddie was speaking very warmly of his dad, who turned 75 on Monday, and told a bit
about his life.

On Tuesday, fall equinox, after the show, I hung around to watch Eddie sign programs and take
photos with fans. There were a lot of people waiting and Eddie was on a time schedule for he
was doing this live radio show out of London, so had to be ready for that at midnight. The event
staff people lined everyone up in the lobby in a very orderly fashion giving them rules and
regulations on autographs, photos, etc. People were also loitering outside but were not allowed
back in by the theatre event staff folks. The first woman in line was a pretty woman in a
wheelchair. Eddie spent quite a bit of time chatting with her, had his picture taken with her,
hugged her. He seemed in a good mood and was very chatty with everyone, signing(shirts,
breasts, whatever), hugging people, and taking photographs. It was so fun watching people from
every walk of life and every age leave their meet and greet time with Eddie with huge smiles on
their faces, some quietly composed, others squealing. Eddie continued working through the fan
line as Mick Perrin, Eddie’s production manager kept close track of the time. At one point, Mick
pulled Eddie aside for a private talk for a few moments, then the theatre doors were opened, and
all the people on the sidewalk were allowed back in to also meet Eddie....so every fan that
desired a brief moment with Eddie was given that luxury....so very gracious and incredibly smart.
And at twenty minutes before the end of the day of the equinox, the very enjoyable evening with
Eddie concluded.

And now Eddie continues his trek east across this vast land mass....get ready Liz, he’s at your
doorstep.

Eddie brings so much good energy to people, he’s infectious in a good way...he has substance
and soul and cares greatly for life outside of himself while still taking care of himself.....he’s a
beauty....this lovely lady man is a beauty.....and with that this musing is but a few of one person’s
moments, ephemeral but true and it’s time to cease.....

Thanks BZC, it's great to hear all about Eddie's gigs and you do have a wonderful way with words. Can't wait 'til December that's when I'll be seeing him Manchester.

Aren't the Rockies just fantastic, have spent some time in the touristy places there when we lived in Canada. So beautiful and the air is so fresh and crisp and dry.

Good to see that you still post on here, I don't know why it has been abandoned so, especially after all the fuss we made about keeping it. Ah fickle you see, that's what we are ;0)
