Subject: Seeing as this board has died......

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word;
But as Thou dwell’st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings,
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea—
Come, Friend of sinners, and thus bide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile;
And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee,
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

[> [> nonono. this is far more lugubrious than blues music. type "abide with me lyrics" into google and see what your media player does with it. it kicks in something rotten. -- pav, 12:47:50 06/12/03 Thu

[> [> [> Dammit. I don't have media player. But I imagine it would be funny to hear a blues singer trying in vain to give it soul. So much thee thy thou didst dwell'st hast...and perverse. No blues singer would use any of those words. There's no such thing as perverse in blues, is there? -- S, 12:57:10 06/12/03 Thu

[> [> [> [> well, j edgar hoover called mlk a pervert for singing "i have a dream". does that count? oh, wait, then he spoiled it by perverting the course of justice himself. what goes around comes around. people in glasshouses shoud.....uh.....wear light clothing...uh...like cotton. -- pointlessly political pav, 15:04:09 06/12/03 Thu

[> [> [> [> [> [> I think it's the people who are so ready to call it "perverse" who are really into perversity. Those people who live in glass houses should be mindful when taking showers. And cotton, well, we say it has many uses, like you can make rope out of it. And paper. And little cotton ball tails on bunnies. But then these tail making empires demonized cotton, forcing the little guys out of the biz. -- S, 16:10:52 06/12/03 Thu

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> yeah...though it must be admitted that the empires can have their benefits. would you rather see a hollywood blockbuster or mrs brown's home video of her pet tortoise carefully measuring a leaf of lettuce in case it bites off too much too quickly. -- pav, 16:54:34 06/12/03 Thu

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Wellll...as long as anti-trust laws enter in, keeping the bunny from taking another leaf after he finishes his, then Mrs. Brown's Amazing Turtle Adventures can live on. On PBS. I'll be buying the ticket to watch the bunny finish his leaf on the big screen. But both should be given a platform. -- S, 17:13:17 06/12/03 Thu
