Subject: Browsers, etc

For those of you using Internet Explorer, Microsoft issued another critical security patch in August. I think its for versions 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0, if you use one of these version you probably want to look into downloading the patch or upgrading to a newer version of IE if you have an old one.

For those of you using Netscape Communicator 4.79 or lower. This isn't the optimal browser for viewing the new web page layout since it uses frames. The web page looks better in IE or the new Netscape 7.0. I downloaded 7.0 a few days ago. It hasn't crashed our computer yet which isn't saying much but it's more than I can say for some of the versions in the 4.7x series. If you want to try 7.0 but want to keep 4.79, downloading 7.0 does not overwrite 4.79. You'll have both version unless you uninstall 4.79.

When we use IE 6.0 we sometimes get runtime errors when the webpage loads. There is nothing I can do about this (that I know of) the errors are being produced by the part of the code that Yahoo adds to the page for the ads. If you get the error choose not to debug, the page then loads fine.

There has also been recent updates to Microsoft Office although I can't say which versions are effected. You may want to check out

If you have microsoft office on you computer. The link on this page scans your computer to determine if updates are available.
