Well, of course, without music lyrics are just poetry.

However, your problem might be that you don't understand the importance of poetry. It is a failing of those who culture their intelligence, which is expedient without charm; without also flavoring it with a wine of intuition and grace. Both are important, or the flavor of the meal is one-sided.

There have been a few musical pieces which have held up by themselves, such as Mozart's work. Some of Stravinsky. Byork's music could hold it's own even though the lyrics are also powerful.

Little now-a-days, though. But, little now-a-days as far as lyrics go, also. Basically because music has become a calculating business rather than a passion so all the life has been drained from its body.
