Author: Chief Oker
Subject: Becoming Chief

(OOC) I just need to say thank you to Yamo for this position. Note:the request itself was written as an email to him.

(IC)
An extremely tall dog stood in front of him ready for attack with teeth bared, Oker’s eyes were closed and he stood perfectly still listening to the butterflies alight on the grass with his double katana strapped to his back. The dog was mighty with muscles rippling and pulsating as a simple eye batted, he was covered with old scars and wore only a loincloth. In both hands he held mighty hammers that looked as if they would make the earth shudder for miles around and did. Oker’s feet felt the subtle movement of his father leaning slightly to his left, so that is where he jumped hoping for a bluff. His father knew his power and hadn’t bluffed but was swinging down with full force ready to crush his only son. Oker quickly jumped up and over his father’s nearly 7-foot frame then bounced back p for a quick cut to the throat but his father was gone. He studied the earth knowing Oon was somewhere waiting too attack, sensing the vibrations he stood directly above where he guessed his father and wasn’t surprised when the giant beast tore out of the ground directly under him. Quickly as he felt the thrust he jumped with katana pointed down and didn’t miss as he came back slicing his father from the neck to lower back. His father twisted around before his wound quickly turned to stone and he lost mobility. Oker did a tight spinning thrust but nearly had his arm smashed by the swinging megaton hammer. Only his extremely fast flexible movements kept him alive as his father only slightly slower came after him with mighty near misses. He took one giant flip back and stood up watching his father, obvious sound had almost disappeared with only the sound of the hammers going through vacuum as they came down. He twisted the two blades making them fall apart into his hands and stood with them crossed pointing down. Looking up at his father he smirked and almost lost his head as he jumped up missing yet another deathblow. Stopping in mid air he dropped onto his father’s head and struck down too late as his father sunk into the ground. He stood perfectly still quieting his heart until it was but a tiny whimper, his father waited. He felt nothing as his father grabbed his ankle and pulled him down into a place he couldn’t breathe. He had a small amount of his fathers magic and could at least move very slowly inside the topsoil so he began a spin, both katanas out as he stood head down. He hit something and was thrown out as his father came straight up enraged with pain, his arm was flopping at his side with little flesh holding it as the blackish blood oozed out. Oon took the arm and reapplied it until veins of stone appeared to engulf the entire arm covering any sign of entrance. That’s when Oker attacked and slid his two katanas together into one of his father’s might legs. All of a sudden they stopped moving as new veins of stone came to wrap around them from the dark blood. Oker immediately jumped straight up surprising his father enough as he came down onto his back arms around neck. He knew no other weakness in his father except for his lack of ability to reach his back for the giant muscles, his father spun around and tried to stomp him with his great weight but couldn’t throw him. Oker tightened as much as he could and heard his father begin to breathe heavily until he fell finally into unconsciousness but that wasn’t the only way he fell. Oker was smashed under his father’s slumbering weight and held there for hours before his father would wake.

A Oon marked younger with smaller muscles was holding his young son in his lap and telling stories of his time in Old KotN where he was always called chief or sir except by his friend and leader Raithen. He had left when he met Oker’s mother and had never seen it’s beautiful castles and cities ever again. His amazingly deep voice was full of happiness as he talked in perfect detail of his adventures until his small son slept.

A longing heart is all Oker woke up with as he remembered his long dead father; he looked around the small shabby room studying its dim features. His Katana was held above the fireplace and his very light leathery suit of armor was on a rack in the corner. In front of the fireplace slept his faithful pup that he had rescued some years before. His mind completely awake studied over the dreams and he remembered back to his father talking about KotN. With that idea in his head he got up and nudged the sleeping lad awake then turned to put on his armor and cloak then strapped to his back the katana. He grabbed a pack and prepared it for a journey he knew not how long could be. He took tasteless travel bread and other essential items for life, turning to find the small dog all ready to go with a similar pack tied onto a staff over his shoulder he walked out with small shadow behind.
“Master why do we leave so hastily? Asked the shadow.
“It was time to leave, we’ve been here too long and I have an odd feeling today I will find KotN” stated Oker.
The pup who had no name he knew of quieted down for he had many a time heard of KotN and its beautiful landscape but each time he had come on these trips the failure came and they would return to the small cabin in the woods. They walked on an eastern trek with no path and stayed many a night upon the ground with little but cloak to protect them from the cold nights. One day, a week after they had left the cabin while the pup was away taking care of his call to nature he heard a shrieking bark in the general direction of where the pup had gone. He ran there to find the pup curled up and a small snake slithering away. He studied the pup’s body and found the bite on the ankle, quickly he grabbed up the pup knowing little of healing and ran where his ear heard something like what he hoped was a tavern in the distance. Breaking through the brush to an open path in the forest he took it less than two miles to come on exactly what he needed, a tavern bore the name “The Golden Kitty” and going through the small door he rushed in to the smell of smoke and alcohol. He laid his companion in the corner and went to the barkeep.
“My friend has been bitten by a snake and needs help,” He said smoothly.
The barkeep pointed to a nicely dressed gentlemen sitting with a group of others and he ran up to him and told everything he could recall. With disgruntled face the man quickly got up and went to the pup to see the bite.
“I need to take him to the clinic, pick him up and follow me,” was all the doctor said before turning to leave. Oker picked him up and followed quickly, they entered the short building and he placed pup onto one of the cots he found. Days later his friend was well again and they were ready to go, as he paid the doctor he began talking with her about geography and found amazingly that she had heard of KotN before.
“Do you know where it is?” he asked with a note of eagerness.
“I thought it was gone, I don’t know what but they disappeared” She said slowly.
“I will have to deal with that, do you know where it was before?”
“Two weeks southeast of here, if you follow the paths maybe 3”
Giving her another silver piece he left with a nod then started to travel in the noted direction. Nothing to note happened as they raveled those three hard weeks with little to eat until they spotted the first village completely deserted. Traveling on they became discouraged with the lack of population as day after day went by. Finally they came upon a city is outskirts also had no people but as they traveled farther in and spotted a castle many people were seen to be at work and play.
“Where are we?” asked the pup to himself.
“Why, Kingdom of the Night of course,” A passerby stated and continued on.
Traveling on they came to the castle and though few were there Oker was able to get the position of elite guard and get residence inside an inn near the castle. He wondered over lack of leadership for the guard and making his decision that night, Oker thought over constantly of what to write in a request to his Rah and finally finishing it he handed it to his short friend and told him exactly what to do the next morning. Dressed in his finest the pup ran out of the door scroll in hand.

At the castle:
The small dog ran eagerly up to Yamo holding a scroll with his master’s badge on it, bowing he handed it to the Rah and stood aside waiting for an answer. The rah looked at the boy then the scroll and broke the wax seal to study its surface. On it, it read:

Rah Yamo,
I have sent this messenger to make a request of your great benevolence, I have watched the position of the Chief of the Guard and grow worried as it sits open with no one to fill it. I feel that I have the qualities required of this great position that holds the entire defense of our great nation. I have been trained by my father one of KotN's Chiefs in history and know how to handle things from something close to past experience. Physically I am powerful enough to hold back any threat and know how to train men into strong defensive power. I have a working knowledge of our laws and know when to enforce and to let go. I am a kind but strict leader who can show little mercy at times of attack but will get the job done. I am always willing and ready to serve what ever your wishes may be.

Your Samurai,
Oker

As Yamo rolled the scroll up the eager pup stood in front of him, with a quick nod and a quill dashing over the paper quickly he handed the pup the letter and watched him dash off. As the pup neared the Inn he couldn't help himself but read. It read:

Congratulations my friend, you have been chosen to be chief, I stand in firm belief you will not let me down. You will have reign over all defensive posts in the castle, and kingdom…

Your Rah,
Yoma Toshida

Oker noted the broken seal with a grimace but reading the letter a smile broke over his face as he learned his new position. He knew he would fit it as best he could.

OOC: Thanks for reading my little story.
