Subject: Linux PCMCIA problem on ARMBASE/ARMCORE

I am trying to develop an application for a client that is using the ARMcore board. I am using the linux 2.4.26 kernel and the development chain found on compulab's web site.

I have turned on CONFIG_PCMCIA(=y), CONFIG_CARDBUS, CONFIG_HOTPLUG.

I am using an old Wavelan/Orinoco card (16 bit, 5v) - I have the board jumpered correctly for 5v cards.

I have tried to build the driver into the kernel and also modload it. It looks like the driver loads fine, but nothing happens. It is as if I am missing some piece of in the middle - maybe it is obvious to someone out there what piece of the Linux PCMCIA puzzle I am missing?

cardctl ident shows the card:

Socket 0:
product info: "Lucent Technologies", "WaveLAN/IEEE", "Version 01.01", ""
manfid: 0x0156, 0x0002
function: 6 (network)

the drivers are loaded - lsmod:
Module Size Used by
wvlan_cs 22384 0 (unused)
orinoco_cs 4576 0 (unused)
orinoco 32816 0 [orinoco_cs]
hermes 4960 0 [orinoco_cs orinoco]

and the only suspicious message in /var/log/messages is:
...cardmgr[xx]: get dev info on socket 0 failed: Resource temporarily unavailable

I have googled this message without much success.

The card itself is not lit up, nothing shows up in ifconfig, etc. Again, it is as if, the 'glue' to connect the card to the driver is missing. Any help would be much appreciated.
