He feeds her a little; she would get more after the small workout, and he gives her a much water as she needs. He tacks her up and leads her into the aisle, then he whistles and an ebony stallion meets them at the front of the barn. Upon arriving the boy places a halter and lead rope on the stallion, then mounts the mare, leading the horse. He started to make his way towards the track. "Now," he said to pony, "Your job till the race next week is to keep him company; we are going to practice ponying, for today, at Practice Fields; don't worry, he won't step on you...Although he can get a bit spooky."
