If Peter Louis has any brains he will appoint an up-and-comer to the game and give him a couple of touchies who had their first season last year, with a very experienced standby touchie and ref.I think we should select from:

REFEREE: Steve Lyons, Steve Richards, Shayne Hayne(If they rate him, then fine), Steve Carrall or Matt Cecchin

TOUCHJUDGES: Pat Reynolds, Brett Meredith, Russell Turner, John Taylor, Allen Foster, Glynn Henderson.

My choice:

REF: Steve Lyons
TOUCHIES: Pat Reynolds, Brett Meredith

I have played quite a lot of rugby, but only just started to watch rugby league...I've found it quite confusing ;)

Does anyone have a basic explanation of the rules of rugby league?

Thanks very much,

The Co-op has had a serious face lift.
The front page is a lot more professional looking than the previous one we had.
Its a lot more comprehensive and a lot more user friendly.Every link is up dated daily and the news articles are just about up to the minute.
Please support the co-op and use the front page as your source of info for anything pertaining to the NRL.
Just follow the big Co-op banner on top of this message board.
Thanks from all at the Co-op.

Sounds like an interesting court case. Bill Harrigan v Alan Jones. Harrigan claimed that Jones siad that he was biased toward the Broncos. Harrigan is suing for damages.

Jones is safe on this one!

Keg, you are an absolute jibberer, when you can referee at a level as high as Shayne is, and as successful you can start shooting off at the mouth. The same goes for any other of you imbeciles that think you could handle an NRL game better than anyone of the guys that are there. Just go back to being an in goal judge for an Under 7's trial match, where you belong and stop believing you little level 1 refs are better than them just because you have your ticket, which as crowds say, you probably took out of a corn flakes packet.

enough with the video ref
the guys in the box are doing more bad then good
the rarely get the call right anyway and when the do they are obvious calls the the ref should have made the extra effort to get in position to make anyway
since the video ref has come into play ref have stopped making the extra effort to be in the right position to call dropped balls over the line, held up calls and the touch judges have become even more pitiful they have been reduced to under 7 parents that do the job only because they have to. note to touch judges: you are there to help the ref not just to put your flag in the air when some one goes out. get your act together

Here is one to think about:

A differential penalty is given, the referee is then abused by the player. Referee advances 10 meters and still calls it a differential. Is this correct? Discuss..

"The Sharks were less than impressed with the performance of referee Steve Carroll as the Eels stormed back in the second half, chief executive Steve Rogers joking: "I think he's from Cronulla - we might have to revoke his visa! Winning was a bonus......"

Anyone see the game? What was the problem? Or is it typical Coaches crap?

Allow me to consult the oracles.....

You remember the incident in the Charity Shiled, where Blacklock falls on a ball in goal, loses it backwards, and recieves a forward pass from the Saints fullback. The commontaters stated that there is no offside rule in the ingoal. Does this mean there is no forward pass rule as well?

If so (explains why they reckoned it was a knock on), does, therefore, a knock on be ACCIDENTAL (ie, no cnotrol over the ball) by defenition? I thought the knock on rule was if the ball was PROPELLED toward the opposition's goal line. Isn't a pass 'propelling' a ball?

Is this a confusing question?

With Christmas gone, we are headed to a new year of Rugby League. And with a new year of Rugby League, we're also headed to the 3rd Fantasy League competition. There's still sides available, these being Illawarra,Taree,Souths and Sydney City.If I can't make contact with another manager, Canberra may also become available. Just remember too,it costs nothing and you can relocate your sides to another area as long as there is no side there already(This includes feeder clubs).

Who knows? You may become the next Brian Smith(Like our Parra manager!!!Made the finals twice and has been quickly cut both times!!) or a supercoach like our Magpies man or our Canberra coach.Send me an e-mail at kegleg12@yahoo.com.au and i'll give you the run down.

Sorry NT,i'm already in charge of the whistleblowers!!

Whats the worst. Dirty players? bad parents? My worst experience was calling an under 10's match when a fight broke out 20 metres back when I stopped the game another fight broke out. All this was happening when a kid was down with ligament damage to his knee and a beer bottle was thrown on to the ground All this was in an under 10's match

I know yoou guys probably won't believe me because of my opinions, but this is something I heard from one of my fellow referees.

The NRL is going to have a big blowup in a few weeks.
We have our 2 top referees now:Harrigan and Simpkins.Apparently they want to use the Video referee for as many tries as possible in the Grand Final because people have said it's been rigged for a few years.Harrigan has refused to do it,so he'll go to England at the end of the season and Simpkins will get the big one. Now,I think it's a bit funny, but i'd love it to be true.

Well guys - whats the debrief from the weekends games?

Fri: Clark. I thought he went well (seems to have packed some beef on though). He was consistent in all areas, and was not seen or heard from most of the night. 8/10

Sat: Simpkins Well he had a close game didnt he. Its easy to crtitcise a Referee in close games cause ALL calls are important. I thought that even though he looked a little ragged, his calls were right and he used the video ref well. Good to see no brain explosion penalties in the last 20 mins - he kept right out of it. 8/10

Harrigan - well shocker of a start. Should have pinged Newcastle for kicking the ball outa the ruck area - and that scrum penalty still has everyone shocked. But he pulled himself together and the game really played itself - he was just there to blow tries. Thought he looked physically tired in 2nd half. 7/10

Mander...... well lets see how he goes. He has BIG troubles with pressure games and making those calls. Go the warriors! :D

How did Cecchin get a 2nd run in 1sts this season when we have Richards and Lyons running around in reggies???

Why isn't Lyons up there? If the policy is rotation, fine! But at least let him hold his spot if he proves to be good enough!

One referee is plenty.Physical fitness is not a problem. The perfect illustration of this was in Origin 3 in 1999.

10 seconds left,NSW want a shot at field goal.Lam is WAY offside but play is allowed to go by Clark because he doesn;t want to decide the series by a penalty.

MENTAL FITNESS is the key.If the referee has balls then he will fit in.The only reason they want this system is because referees like Harrigan,Simpkins and Oaten have balls. This is another good Harrigan trait.Rules are rules. If we see a team lose the biggest Rugby League competition in the world because he is offside, then tough!Clark was too nervous about a media payout to penalise, but I think he has learnt.Even though I think nothing(Virtually) of Harrigan,he at least lets players know he's boss. This is where they are having problems, and I have been told basically I have the same. The referee is not there as a player's friend,he is there as the 'fat controller' as such.He lets things run and if something wrong happens,he atones for it.

Once all referees get their courage up,then we will see that only one is needed.Physical fitness can be worked on without actually refereeing.Mental fitness can only be worked on in a game.

The only reason they might want 2 referees is to try and help the guys who don't have balls.Anyway,if we're so light on for quality right now,as many media knobs say,why in God's name do we want more??

Tonight, the moment of truth for the two referees experiment. I think they could have chosen two better candidates though....

I hope it goes well, in theory it sounds like an OK plan.

That had to be the most inept display from Hampstead ever.If Peter Louis and Brian Grant have any sense,he'll be in first division next week.Paul Kalina should also be shot for missing some really blatant things.

He just seems to be able to get worse and worse. That wasn't inept. That was embarrassingly incompetent.

It's these sorts of referees who embarrass us other competent referees. On a better note,Harrigan had a poor game and got a couple of shockers in while Simpkins had his usual excellent game, however since when should the warriors have got the ball back after held was called and they passed?

Well let me start by saying good to see a referees board still at the coop.

I did not delete my board.

Now to task.

Shayne fan you are an absolute idiot, b u l l s h i t artist and a moron but thats ok if you are a referee you probably have a Level 2 and you got that because you went on the old system and they were desperate for referees.

And by your comments you have been the ingoal judge for under 7's on numerous occasions.

Hayne has shown on numerous occassions that he is out of his depth at the NRL level. And the only reason he is there is because of politics. If you are over 30 you have little chance of making grade. That does not include the one that have been there a while.

There are numerous referees out there better than Hayne in Junior reps, First division and QLD cup.

And level ones must start some where. And it is a free world they are entitled to an opinion. Unfortunately some association have the heads in place where they became inside out and corrupt young people to be subserviant.

Long Live Rugby league

Well,if Melbourne aren't buying wins right now I don't know who are. That was an incompetent display of refereeing in Melbourne today. For once,I feel sorry for Brisbane. They were given no chance from the outset.

Shane Haynhe was woeful too. They should both have their folios terminated because they are purely incompetent.

Yes indeed, a new member of the Rugby League Co-op. I have started a new board, one for discussing any general sort of topic on the NRL.

The address is http://www.voy.com/34068/

Go there and give us YOUR opinion on the game, where it is at, where it is headed, what you like or dislike, etc.

Forget your team allegiance, but tell us what you think about the NRL or any aspect of the game of rugby league.

Hi everyone. Well, John closed his board suddenly, without warning, and left us in the sin bin for a while. However, this board is not going to die just because the owner goes walkabout!

The new board administrator is NT Ref, who has kindly volunteered to keep it going. Thanks NT!

So, despite the hiccup, this page still exists, and is STILL THE ONLY RUGBY LEAGUE REFEREES MESSAGEBOARD ON THE INTERNET TODAY!
